I would not touch an IPhone 6 rather get a 6s

We had 3 IPhone 6 in the family all three is now unusable after about 16 months.

The refurbs are labelled CPO, the 5s wasn't.

I'm not so sure about that. They sell four years of models. I doubt they manufacture a crap load on release and then warehouse it for years. Got a two year warranty and iOS 11 supports it.

All three were 16Gb so I don't know but I was told the issue was fixed with S versions.

It was discontinued in March 2016, but I know they did continue to make just the 16GB models for a while as the "free" phone for that year.

But then discontinued doesn't mean stopping manufacture I guess.

Then again manufacture could have stopped months before that even and it's a case of selling off warehouses of stock as you say.

Warranty would always just apply from date of sale, regardless how long it's been warehoused.
