iPhone 8 fast charging tested

One of the features punted by Apple during the launch of the iPhone 8 was its fast-charging capabilities.

It was soon discovered that the standard charging cable included with the iPhone 8 did not support fast charging – and users were required to purchase a USB-C-to-Lightning cable and a USB-C Power Adapter.

:crylaugh: WTF

I use the iPad 12W adapter to change my various iPhones over the years & that is drastically faster than the ****ty 5w jobbie provided in the box. As can be seen by the article & various other reports, paying ~75 USD for a marginal increase in charging vs using the iPad charger is just not worth it.

so wait, you know the product that comes in the box is bad, but you still buy the product?

Been an iPad user since day 1 (2010) and therefore have a few 10W/12W iPad Chargers lying around.

Always used these charges to charge my iPhone.

It's well-known fact that Apple still ships the same slow 5W brick from days gone by. A large chunk of iPhone folks have an iPad already so perhaps they are not all that vocal about it.

Having said that the inclusion of the ****ty 5W brick does not detract from an overall great smartphone.

no, the inclusion of the non fast charging brick (and in some cases, a non fast charging cable) does mean false advertising.

the product you buy, should have all the features advertised on the box.
the iPhone 8 says it has fast charging, but the content in the box does not allow you to have fast charging.
regardless if your ipad brick can fast charge the phone or not, it remains false advertising.

you walk in to a dealership.
you buy a car that "comes standard with ABS"

you buy that car, and as you drive off, they ask you, do you not want the ABS front disk installed? right now it has drum brakes, but the car has the potential to have ABS, so it comes standard with it. and if you have ABS disks and pads at home you can install it yourself.

replace car with phone.
ABS with fast charging
and drum brakes wiht the bad 5W charger.
Disks and pads wiht charging brick and USB type C to lightning cable.

now read that again, and tell me apple is not ripping you off.

Apple boxes are blank...

Nowhere does it mention anything about fast charging.

That’s a pretty terrible analogy.

A phone with fast charging has fast charging, the same way that a car with abs has abs. The fact that it doesn’t have a cable or the car doesn’t have a brake pedal doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have the functionality.

one way to prevent law suits.

Not really. It’s just completely irrelevant.

I’ve never had this urgent need for fast charging and still don’t.

The fact that it’s available is really only for people who care.

It’s more like the optional ash tray on cars, if you are a smoker.
