iPhone 8 & iPhone X Thread

Maybe I’m optimistic but I wouldn’t pay too far from a grand for that.

It’s nothing more than a dock in my mind.

Yeah you're being optimistic. This is Apple dude. I'll probably end up getting a Samsung fast wireless charger 2ndhand and be just fine.

Yeah, pretty much... but Apple..

If the fast charge adapter and cable comes in at $75,it will sell for around R1500 locally. I'm expecting that pad to be around $120, R2000-R2300 locally...

Is that a guess or did you see some actual pricing somewhere?

Similar things go for about $40.

The Lightning Dock is $39.99 and converts to R899 locally.

So even at double the size I would expect $80 then, which is about R1799 locally so I guess a bit far from a grand then.

But sure the fast charging thing throws it off a bit. At the same time you aren't going to buy Fast Charge & Wireless Charging, you are going to choose one so I would expect them to be similar.

Wait and see I guess.

I’ll stick with fast charge. Wireless will always be slower and I would rather be able to charge quickly then place a phone on a mat.

You forgot about the proprietary chip that they'll inevitably design to cope with at least 3 devices at once. This thing has to charge Airpods, the Watch, and the iPhone8 at the same time. I don't even think the first 2 are using Qi standard and the standard Airpods case doesn't have wireless charging so I have no idea what they're planning to do with this, but $80 is living in dreamland.

Not really. It started out amusingly (carried by the actor) but then turned into an Apple hater doing subtitles. Fairly poor show really. They equate it to an S8 which is a joke, it's so much more powerful than the S8. True regarding the lack of innovation. But certainly not "very well done". A weak troll. I'd give it a 4.

Lol I’m an Apple fan and even I see the humor. I love these “Hitler reacts to...” videos.

That’s a good point actually.

I was wondering how the Watch and Airpods would work, but you are quite right it will be Qi + Other ****.

Or not even Qi at all and that will just be the fallback tech.

I do believe you just have the new AirPods though and possibly the new Watch so maybe the answer lies in there.

Unless the W1 chip itself has been prepped for this kind of thing all along and you can charge your ****ty Beats on it too.

Then all things considered if you are “all in” the price becomes more and more reasonable.

The deeper concern is that I would want one in my room, kitchen and car.

Yeah, but they normally ship from local warehouses. This one is fresh off the boat

If you buy at launch (real launch in September, not 3rd or 4th wave months later) they often come direct from China ;)

PS

No boats involved, I think you mean fresh off the plane :p

And with the currency it's gonna be a ridiculously expensive phone. R25k for the 256gb and over R20k for the 64gb are my predictions.

And it's gonna be hard af to get judging from not just the production delays but also the sales of the Iphone 8. Everyone is waiting for the X

So I see scalpers pushing these numbers even higher

Apple have so much of cash, it's surprising that they still haven't set up their own production lines in their own factories. They have a big enough fanbase to keep those facilities going. Only time will tell if these "rumours" about supply issues are true.

I'm sure there might be competition regulations preventing them from doing so ... As many of these factories are sole mandated to apple !? Also maybe they don't want their own factories as it's an entire business on its own that could detract from their core function which is engineering and design .

I say October/November for the former & earliest late Q1 for the latter.

Man if that's the case I'm starting to think I should maybe get a 7 plus for now and hold out until the X2 or whatever they call it comes out... I really just want to switch back to the iOS lifestyle :/
