I have recently fell in love with the iPhone and decided that i need to get one. I have found someone thats willing to sell a iPhone 3g 8gig that is 2 Months old and in perfect condition for R3000.

Does this sound like a good deal?

Was also wondering if it would be a bad time to get one now, as i hear that the newer versions are coming out now and that the 8gig is being discontinued? Are there any major differences except for the 16/32gig capacity of the new versions?

Any help/pointers would be appreciated. - Thanks

As long as it is a local Vodacom stock one, yeah..that is a decent deal.
In fact, if you don't take it...drop me a pm and I'll take it and throw R500 your way as a finder fee.
I am after an iPhone (local one) but seems the shops are a bunch of clowns who are asking more than they cost new.
If anyone is selling one for a decent deal, let me know.
Even have 3 older cellphones plus 2 x Audiovix GPS's for car, plus cash to trade for one.

Don't know if the 32Gig one will be hardware enhanced in any way, and yes the 8 gig is discontinued. But they are always bringing out new phones, so at some stage you just have to bite the bullet and stop waiting for the next version.

Hope your seller doesn't read these forums :p ;)

What are you going to use the phone for? Web and Apps, then go for it. But if you plant to load the iPhone with South Park or American Dad, then you will find 8 Gig to be inadequate.

If you decide not to buy it, the send me PM, I want to see whats inside the iPhone.

Right now whatever anyone says about the 'new' devices is pure speculation.

You know you dont have to upload them all at once right? ;) :)

Anyway at about 120mb per 43 minute episode your battery will probably run out long before your playlist.

I wouldn't say a give away. R3000 for any second hand phone isn't a give away. The iPhone is still running on its hype for now, but in 6 months or so they will be back down to realistic prices again.
Cash Converters etc are only paying about R1500 for them.
And of course the prices on the 8 Gig (and 16 gig) are gonna drop when the next version comes out.
http://iphonefan.co.za/ seems to think that it will have a better camera which is logical. And if they are doing hardware changes, it makes sense there will be other changes too.

[Value for money, iPhone retains its value, How old is the iPhone], but in 6 months or so they will be back down to realistic prices again.
Cash Converters etc are only paying about R1500[Buy a new PS3 and try to sell it sealed to Cash Coverters, see how much they will offer you] for them.
And of course the prices on the 8 Gig (and 16 gig)[8Gig discontinued, there will probably be hardware changes in upcoming iPhone, Apple will not sell, new and old ones concurrently, Stores are clearing their shelves, I went to Vodacom to buy 16Gig, they were out of stock] are gonna drop when the next version comes out.

New local stock from VC costs what - R6.5k? Or somewhere thereabout.
So if it really is 2months old, that's a good deal IMO.
We all know they're not worth the R6.5k or even the R3k, but this is what the local market has panned out to be.
So I'd say 50% off what seems to be a rather new phone is not bad at all.

I didn't say it wasn't a good deal. (I am prepared to pay R3500 for it)
I DID say it isn't a give away. It isn't.
You wanna go out there and price any technology a few weeks after you buy it?
Half the new price is about right. Go buy a new tv and sell it a few weeks later. Drive your new car out the lot and then try and sell it the next day. See what any of the "trade-in" stores offer for ANYTHING nowdays...and how often people accept that. It is a buyer's market, especially in technology right now.
Yes, the iPhone is still in fashion and overpriced. That is an artificial situation and will calm down in a few months, and then ppl will be crying that they can't get R4000 for their phones. Doesn't help those of us who need one now though. lol

LoL agreed to an extent yeah :D
Why I'm saying giveaway is because most sellers you'd come across are selling for between R4k and R5k and then they refuse to budge on their prices.

The iPhone is overpriced and overhyped. I was rather disappointed after building up an expectation. Its a nice phone for sure but there are better phones out there.
