iPhone battery problem

I have my 3GS for a few months now but had problems with battery from the start. When I plug it into wall charger when its at 50% or less it goes off as if battery is dead. I then gives the plug into charger icon.

Does anyone else experience this? I took it into the store when I got it but still did the same after. When I got it there was no stock in the country so didn't wanna sit without a phone because it is the best phone ever

Reformatted it now and waiting for battery to go down and see if it does the same. If so gonna take it in for repairs or replacement

allow the battery to drain completely , then leave the phone off and give it a full overnight charge

Will give it a try but think I've done it already. Will drain it tonight playing music and messing about.

Tried this and it still does the same.
Plugged into laptop earlier and it jumped from 95% to 88% so think there is definitely something wrong with it
