What’s a good brand?

Went looking yesterday and it appears that there are only the flimsy China mall cases you can get at China mall for R20 but R150 at Vodacom, or R800 cases that look good with decent shock resistance but are R800.

The iPhone SE is so much glass it makes me nervous to go commando.

I had a cheap China mall bumper clear case on my iPhone 11 since I got it and only yesterday traded the phone in on the iPhone 13. I got top dollar for the trade in and the sales guy at iStore could not believe the phone was 3 years old. The same situation played out with my wife's phone trade-in.
I guess it is not necessary to spend hundreds of rands on a cover but depends on how careful you are in order to avoid major catastrophes.
Accidents do happen!

I got a decent case (SE) at China town for R200
Hard semi transparent back and soft rubbery sides.
Yeah I’m looking for something like that with rubber bumpers on the corners.

There’s more than one China town around here so I’ll go see at the others after breakfast.

Rhinoshield all the way.

My advice is order together and just soak up their direct shipping costs and it just gets dropped off no questions asked.

With a shipping forwarder it’s not been much cheaper and customs got me every time.

Otherwise if I had to go local I’d just get the official Apple case and be done with it.

Think my wife gets ours from Typo. Mine's a plain boring silicone one but it has done a good job of protecting my phone.

Think with Rhinoshield is not that it protects it but that it makes it near indestructible.

My phone has gone a double flight of stairs and came out of it just fine.

My wife drops her iPhone daily. Multiple times a day in fact and her iPhone 8 did just about four years before there was finally a sign of damage in a small crack on the screen right over the front camera area.

When she got her iPhone 13 Mini I insisted she’s not even unsealing the box before the Rhinoshield arrives.

You guessed it. Literally within an hour of the Rhinoshield going on the phone hits the floor.

How the **** I don’t know.

Try Griffin. Good quality stuff. Dropped my phone plenty of times without any issues

Problem is how your phone fall. My son's phone had a good case and glass screen protector on. Yesterday it fell out his schoolbag onto the brick paving, but facedown and hitting a corner of one of the bricks. Still works, but the whole screen is cracked and damaged. not just the screen protector and top layer of screen. Whole screen have funny lines and colours.

Glass protectors are not all that and don’t absorb the energy the way other options do.

That being said you are right , if you are unlucky and the fall is just at the right angle then nothing will save it.

But it’s the other 99% of the time that a bumper case is good for.

How the **** I don’t know.

Wives  mine the same.

Meanwhile, my phone goes straight into a Griffin or Otterbox, but don’t actually get dropped too much.

Most of the time it’s forgetting she put it on her lap or whatever and then just getting up and it goes flying.

And then I’m like just stop putting it in stupid places but it never happens.

Wow, taking a look at the designs and absolutely loving Rhinoshield. I’ve never ordered from overseas except Amazon though, does direct shipping mean that it gets delivered to my door and I don’t have to fuss with customs or anything?

Also are the bumper cases with the tempered glass backs as protective as the Solidsuit cases?

I only have a bumper case on mine and never had an issue.

My wife had one of the Mod ones with the optional back protection (not tempered glass) on her iPhone 8. It was see-through and scratched over time but did the job perfectly.

Now she got a solid suit with the 13 Mini and it works very well and also fits a lot more tightly but one issue is that our one wireless charger doesn’t work with it and for that reason I would avoid it.

Also stay away from the tempered glass stuff as a whole and go for the normal Impact Protection. Not only does it work better, but it’s also thinner which means no ridge to annoy you.

I have the Dbrand Grip case and screen protector on my 13 Pro Max. The quality of the fit is amazing, it's one of the best cases on the market for drop protection (even surviving being dropped off a bridge in EverythingApplePro's recent vid) and the screen protector feels at least as nice as the naked screen, which is more than can be said of other screen protectors I've used.

One cool advantage of using the Grip case is that it supports most of Dbrand's skins. I'm currently rocking the Teardown one, which accurately shows the innards of the iPhone.

I have had Apple Leather cases, had a Forest Green one and it was great, they last long and have good grip, I just got a little careless with mine now it’s bottom left edge is torn up, moved to a Body Glove soft touch case that’s black. Thinking of getting another leather one though.

If you don’t want to spend too much the Body Glove ones tend to be great, they have been making cases since forever and you can get them at a few of the network stores like Vodashop, Chatz etc… as well as Takealot, Incredible Connection and iStore.

I bought the official transparent case for my 13 Pro Max (before ordering the Dbrand Grip case) and the quality is disgraceful. The fit is poor, with the bottom corner of the phone often needing to be pushed slightly back in. And the drop protection seems to be close to zero going by YouTube case comparisons.

The other official cases might be good, but given the cost of the above case and how rubbish it is, it totally put me off buying any more Apple cases.
