iPhone charger vs iPad charger

Was wondering...

The iPad 2 ships with such a stupid looking charger compared to the iPhone 4, does it make a difference to charge times for the iPad between the two...? I would test it myself but my iPad doesn't seen to want to go flat:D

Figured there must be a difference between the output of the two chargers as the iPad requires a bit more than the iPhone(iPad doesn't charge off USB) anyone know if it matters?

My random question of the day...:)
 
The iPad most certainly does charge off of USB.
They are the same charger. I switch between my chargers all the time

I know it charges, even though it says not charging when connected through USB, but the rate it charges at cant be called "charging"... It's more like draining the bat a little bit slower. So if the output voltage of a standard USB port isn't enough, surely the iPad charger must deliver a higher voltage? Higher than the charger optimized for a iPhone.

The reason I asked is because the iPad charger seems more bulky, which must mean different hardware to deliver the optimal current for charging. If this is the case, the iPad charger could then damage the iPhone battery.
 
iPad requires 2 Amps to charge properly, and the USB 2 port specification is only 1 Amp.

So, yes, the iPad charger is different, it can supply 2 Amps.

The iPhone requires less than 1 Amp to charge, but can also be charged from an iPad charger. But not the other way around.

The iPad will only trickle charge if the power supply is inadequate.
 
i left mine plugged into my laptop all day, bat went from 40, to 70%
 
You can charge an iPad using an iPhone charger. It will take longer as the power output on the iPad charger is more than that of an iPhone charger.

Although the iPad may say not charging when plugged in via USB, it actually does charge quite slowly.

Not sure if you can use an iPad charger to charge an iPhone - I wouldn't try it either as the power output is larger than that of the iPhone charger. Could damage something I would think - as I said I haven't tried though.

Theoretically the iPhone will only draw the current it needs and the charger will not force a higher current to the phone. having said that, apparently apple do not recommend doing so.
 
I can confirm that you can use the iPad charger to charge both iPad and iPhone - this is what I did all the time. Like previously stated the iPad needs more power to charge which is why I swapped my iPhone charger for the iPad's one and used that as my main charger and had no hassels at all.
 
If you connect an iPad to a USB powered hub, it will sync with iTunes on a PC and also charge at the same rate as the mains powered charger. The mains powered charger supplies 1.1 amps
 
iPad charger is 10W and iPhone charger is 5W. Using your iPhone charger on your iPad will just take longer to charge than usual..

And vice versa? Mind quoting your sources? I can confirm the charge time being more painful but I'm more interested in the iPad charger iPhone combo.
