Iphone Data - Average User - vs BB

Hi All
I am sure iphone vs BB has been convered in many posts and as i have read thro them all, there is something missing.
If i compare the Bold vs. 3gs, they are not so dissimilar in price.
The 8900 is slightly cheaper - but no 3g.

So the question is how does paying R60 for BIS compare to data usage on iphone.
Since there seem to be many iphone users out there, what is the average data usage on:
1. Browsing
2. Applications
3. Updates of any kind
Music is fairly easy to calculate.
Bear in mind that i have no wifi at home currently (had it, but alas Telkom's incompetence strikes).
Finally, there seem to have been increases in data caps for ADSL, i think this should filter thro to 3g???

Personal experience.....

Used a Blackberry Curve for a year, then switched to a Sony Ericsson X1 with "push for exchange" for email and calender synch, coupled with browsing my bill increased by around R200 per month.

Have been using an iPhone 3Gs for the past month, and as it is a new phone, and because of the App Store (I have a US and local account) I have used 480MB (but purchased a 500MB bolt on at the beginning of the month) in the past month.

So i.m.o the BB will defintely save you money, and once BB launches their App store in SA will give you much better value than any other offer on the market, but for pure "playtime" the iPhone still rates tops

Is the bolt-on like a prepaid data. Valid for 60 months.
That was my thinking, instead of 250mb pm, i rather go 500mb for 2 months.

Wat abt GPS - how much data does that take.
With the BIS, there is the disadvantage of no tethering, large file download (>3mb), streaming, but browsing, email and GPS is free.
Lastly, hows the security of Iphone, would anyone use a credit card on it.

I have the iphone 3G (and have to say also have wifi at home), but I used about 50 - 60 megs a month on software updates/GPS/Mail fetch every hour from 3 accounts/PUSH and so on. Now I use a lot more (don't really browse though), but I have a lot of apps updating hourly, got me a 350mb data bundle, and never had to pay in on it

The iPhone doesnt come with built in Navigation (Google Maps + GPS yes, but no Navigation) so havent really used it, sorry.

The lack of tethering and throttling you get on BB when browsing is frustrating, when in good coverage areas as you cant get decent speeds for browsing / Youtube etc but for the iPhone when your in poor coverage areas its just as frustrating as the phone cant perform.

Security on the iPhone is 100% - you dont need to use your CC details as
a) its either linked to your iTunes account
b) you can use iTunes giftcards for your purchases (buy these online)

my bold is mainly used for messaging and email, cant really say how much data is uses, it main use for me is to run - at the same time, aim, live and yahoo messenger's and collect my emails. I've browsed easynews.com with the bold and you can download a s..load of images and 128k mp3's. all for FREE!!! as a test i downloaded over 200 megs of stuff from easynews.com in a day. although its a bit of the pain in the @$$ to browse with the bb.

data usage on my iphone is anything from 250megs to my max of 6gigs - after i discovered "installous" and cydia. my average is around 500megs a month. the iphone is a pleasure to browse and download apps.

iphone vs bb security, email - bb is better, when browsing no problem with the iphone, i use it with absa and fnb all the time. just clear the cache and password etc when done. the bb gives you problems with some ssl sites.

bb for email / messaging [ iphone cant run 3+ msg apps and email at the same time ]
iphone for everything else and just make sure you jailbreak the baby

I've got both. The iPhone is great when I'm at home and there is wifi available but for the rest of the time it's all blackberry. It's worth the r59 just to not have to worry about my data usage.
