Hi All,

I get so many different answers from our wonderful Apple RESELLERS that I decided to ask the people that actually know... I have also tried to search on the forum but I can only get answers for eSim....

So my question is, does SA iPhone's (like the XR, Xs or Xs plus) have DUAL sim? Some people in the iStore say that DUAL SIM is available but not eSim... is this true or am I about to make a R15k mistake?

NO iPhones have dual nanosim.

BUT, if you can get the models with eSim to work with a local ISP, then the normal nanosim slot is available for a second sim.

Hi Jola, Thank you for your reply, so the following video is a fake then?

(sorry, tried to imbed a video and failed, so you need to youtube that lol)

You would have to go to Hong Kong to buy an iPhone that actually takes two real SIM cards. It was a special release for Chinese users.
Interesting, because Apple (well, our "Apple") told me that SA phones does have dual sims... Do you understand my frustration.... I need someone that actually have an iPhone XR, or X or X+ to give me an answer

No. We do not have dual sim iPhones in South Africa. In the future the XS and XR will get a software update that enables eSim when our carriers support it.

To be accurate, there are four versions of most iPhones - US, Global, Japan, China. They differ by connectivity e.g., CDMA, LTE bands, etc, and by SIM slots. See, e.g., here for XR: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...iphone-xr-a1984-a2105-a2106-a2108-models.html

What we have in SA is the global version which is technically dual SIM - a nano SIM and an e-SIM. But no SA carrier (except maybe Rain sometime later this year) supports the e-SIM, so they are effectively single SIM for now.

If you want an actual dual physical SIM iPhone, you need to import the China version as sold in Hong Kong, not the mainland. (Actual China mainland market iPhones reportedly have censorship software that you don't want - https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/...ensorship-features-caused-iphone-crashing-bug.) Just be very sure of exactly what you're buying.

Also then u need to check freq ranges for local use as our network bands may differ.. though likely overlap

I have an XR and it has one slot for a nano sim and provision for eSim when and if it comes available. Which on Vodacom, I'm not holding my breath. So essentially, I and everyone else in SA has a single sim phone until the networks support eSim.

But yes, it's astounding how clueless our network providers can be. And even the 'Apple" store telling you it is dual sim is so negligent it is almost criminal.
