Does anybody know if this will happen in the near future or is it exclusively a Vodacom thing...

Vodacom only for now. I believe MTN have a no phone contract option so you could buy it cash and still get a contract at a better price.

i would not hold thumbs, generally only one provider gets the rights...
like everyone says, jsut get it cash and use mtn if u really want

*sorry*

holding this space out for Roux

it will probably on be in may june, the list I recieved must have been a mistake cause I requested again a day later and the iphone had been removed.... not sure why?

according to some journalists the mtn ceo (or someone high up) went to talk to apple thebeginning of this year

A guy at mtn told me that the new iPhones will be exclusive to MTN.
Just what he said - not fact

All this talk of the new iPhone 4G but no actually carrier has 4G yet!!! I havent heard Vodacom and MTN say anything about their intention to provide 4G, they currently upgrading their 3G.. (Cell C/Virgin is suppose to support 4G it in July but they will probably have 1 tower in Santon! pff)
Whats more is I have not found anything to suggest that the new iPhone 4G supports 3G (in otherwords its not backward compatible with 3G, although it does have GPRS)!

That would suck having the new iPhone 4G, that runs on GPRS! Can anyone (who actually knows) confirm or deny this?

The iPhone 4 (NOT 4G) is a 3G phone. It does not, and never advertised to support 4G.

HSDPA and HSUPA are 3G or 3.5G protocols which Vodacom definitely supports.
