No new iPhone OS ever complies to jailbreaking tools - and the main issue mentioned in the article is for the ability to unlock phones - about all iPhones in SA are unlocked anyway.

Well hackers have to keep finding exploits to unlock the iPhone. If they've patched the current exploit they have to find another, and there's no telling how long it will take. Geohot (author of blackrain) said at the time of blackrain's release, that this may be the best iPhone users ever have it...

I agree....This is no new news to us iphone users! I am happy apple have finally brought out a new version only because then we might get a jailbreak that might actually work!

When I upgraded to 3.1.2 Goehots stupid little jailbreak called blackra1n did not work on my iphone :( I tried multiple PCs with Windows 7,XP and vista and nothing worked. I also did it multiple ways and read so many forum posts about ways to fix the problem and none of them worked.

Redsnow need to get back in the game with 3.1.3! Its clear they know how to make quality breaks.

Let the Jailbreaks begin :)

Well I hope iPad fans who were hoping to jailbreak their wonder device read this article. Apple is against jailbreaking. Don't rely on it. Rather agitate Apple to include more advanced features - which do not necessarily have to cost Apple more (directly).

lol... All 3 jail breaking teams have put on their respective blogs that they are close to jail breaking it as it does not have any more blocking.

I honestly don't see the sense in upgrading until such time when some REAL functionality is added. The upgrade to OS3.0 was really the last significant upgrade it gave us MMS, Tether and one or two other improvements. Since then I have not seen much improvement. Yeah so the battery seems to be lasting a bit longer since OS3.1.2 I would like to see Bluetooth support for file transfer etc.

Steve Jobs is doing it again. Apple was supposed to be the STANDARD for computer OS but he didn't want his OS on computers notade by his company & that attitude almost put Apple in chapter 11. Now with the iPhone he has proven that he can produce a mobile ghat has changed the way people look at mobile phone. So for THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS THAT IS HOLY why can I not swop music with my 14 year old duaghters LG Chatter box

You can't swap music because Apple makes money selling music from iTunes. Apple has a vested interest in hampering you sharing your purchased music with others. It's not impossible to share but it requires tinkering or cracking and that's enough to put most people off doing it. More money for Apple via the ITMS.

Of course this problem is not unique to Apple. Microsoft does it too. Sony does it too. Amazon does it with the Kindle and ebooks. When the hardware maker and content seller are the same, well then you get these crippled devices. LG doesn't sell music the way Apple, Sony, Yamaha, Toshiba and others do.

Secondly, why are you listening to bubblegum pop that 14 yo's listen to? :)

I have reset my netbook to defaults uninstalled and reinstalled Pdanet on my iPhone. I get to certain websites but Facebook, FNB & Gmail I cannot view. I can't even activate my Windows XP (bare in mind I am using the free version of Pdanet I am not prepared to pay $39.99 /pa BOLLOCKS. Any ideas mate?

If it is locked (might not be from HK) then any firmware update will own it. How have you jail broken it?

the iphone OS 3.1.3 has already been hacked! You can now jailbreak your iphone with 3.1.3 os installed!

I told you red snow are awesome :) Check out the jailbreak info by clicking here!

DO NOT go near it with a 3GS.

If you have a 2G/3G it won't unlock, only jailbreak apparently.

To quote iClarified:
The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that the iPhone 2G, 3G, and iPod touch 1G can be jailbroken on OS 3.1.3 already.

Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3.
...
Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source.

WARNING: Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G

So basically the update is safe for those with an iPhone 2G and iPod touch 1G. Those with an iPhone 3G (who don't care about unlock) can update as well.

the phone is unlocked by default, i never had it jailbroken... so does the update look at the serial number of the iphone and decide to lock it or not? or do i hav to set my app store location to hong kong or SA since by law phones cannot be network locked in those 2 places(maybe other countries too)?

If your phone is Factory Unlocked (which you say it is) then it will NEVER EVER lock no matter how hard you try. iTunes store account or whatever you are talking about has nothing to do with anything!
