Hi I have been browsing mainly us and uk sites about the iPhone 4 replacement steps
In other words when your iPhone 4 can be replaced by the warranty, camera shutter not working, home button issues, and so on, but we live in S.A. so if my iPhone 4 has a issue that allows it to be replaced (falling into the warranty of the phone) can I just waltz into a S.A. iStore and get a replacement (thats if they have stock of it....) or am I (....) as I have been seeing a lot of issues with the iPhone 4 on the uk/us sites of various failures and they simply go and have it replaced

I have no idea if it can be done in S.A.

SA is nowhere like the other countries where you can go into a Apple Store Genius Bar and get a new phone there and then.
iPhone in SA has a 1 year warranty (Vodacom, I assume MTN will be the same)
I know for Vodacom they will send the phone away for evaluation which can take up to a week and then they will make a call if it is user damage (which they always seem to try claim from what I've read) or whatever. You will then be issued a new device. Now ... I am not sure if that is a 100% new out of box device or a reconditioned one. With my 3G a year or so ago it didn't appear brand new but was still in perfect condition.
Hope you don't ever have the need to get the phone replaced, that just sucks.

I had my new iPhone 4 for just over two weeks and unlucky for me it had the proximity issue which caused my cheek to put calls on hold, cancel calls ect (even after the iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2.1 update which was meant to fix the problem.). Went to the iStore in canal walk and all they could do was (restore the firmware), I told them I had restored the firmware countless times and using different pc's and macs and still had the problem. They then told me they can't do anything else so I have to got to MTN (where i got the iPhone 4). MTN then sent my device for inspection on 15 December 2010 and got the call last week Wednesday that they had inspected my iPhone 4 and will be sending me a brand new one. They sent it back from Joburg last Thursday and was meant to arrive on Friday (it didn't but wasn't surprised with it being Christmas and all), so they will be delivering the new iPhone 4 to me today. All in all, was really good service and only took a week for them to sort everything out.

Got my "BRAND NEW" iPhone 4 replacement yesterday. Took just under 2weeks after sending it in Which is not bad considering it being xmas time ect...

what does your Serial Number start with , if its 5K , normally its refurb , apparently the refurbs are "better" than new phones , they undergo more stringent testing
