Has anyone tried to do a (shift) restore recently?

I keep getting told that the iphone software update server can't be reached... can anybody confirm / deny?

Need to clarify this... Are you doing a "shift" (in that case, I think it's Alt key) restore to jailbreak your phone or are you simply looking to do a factory restore from Apple..?

No, shfit-restore to set up the phone as new

Okay, you're on a PC... The "shift" option restore allows you to restore to firmware you already have on your PC or an IPSW file you've downloaded specifically to jailbreak... Shift restore should open Windows Explorer and you'd navigate to the file you want.
If you simply want a factory restore and are not looking to preserve a jailbreak, just hit the restore button in iTunes... Don't hold the "shift" key at all... iTunes will download the latest firmware, if you don't have it on your machine already, and run the restore.
You can set your phone up as a new phone when the restore is done...

My Co-worker did this yesterday afternoon, also the same error - IBURST.

I took his iPhone home and did it at my house on MTN, works no problem.

your internet is having a problem downloading the latest firmware, that's all.

Have now tried on a 2nd Service Provider (Neotel) and I'm still having the same issue - has anyone done a successful Shift-Restore on 4.1 recently?

So what would you suggest? uninstall and re-install iTunes?
