I want to put my photo portfolio on my iPhone 2 in .jpg format, are there any specific size that will display best?

The iPhone scales images very nicely, with no visible artifacts, so you can go ahead and put high resolution photos on, they will look great and then you can still pinch to zoom if you want to show details.

IIRC iTunes will automatically resize all the images for the device before it loads them.

Unless you're planning on using a different app?

iPhone 2, I use iTunes. I'm going to make those images 72dpi, about 800px wide and just make sure the aspect ratio is the same as my phone screen.

ah..I see, the iPhone2 screen is not 72dpi like a computer, it's actually 163dpi. at 480 x 320 pixels. I'll just double that size and make them 163dpi then, that's good picture quality for a small surface!

What app are you going to use for your portfolio?

DPI is irrelevant and meaningless. Just use a pixel size that at least matches your screens native resolution so that no upscaling is necessary or pixelation occurs. Preferably more so you can pinch and zoom for effect.

Misunderstandings about dpi

A good point and something that seems to really confuse people.
