Has anyone had this issue when setting up a new or new to you iPhone? My fiance has taken her dad's iPhone as he got a new one and is trying to set it up but keeps getting the message below, we have no idea whose email address this is...

can't you reset the phone to factory defaults?

Already done as far as I am aware, it looks to be a known issue, it even happens with brand new iPhones...

That looks like someone at some point loaded a secondary AppStore, maybe to access some region locked app, which it is now trying to gain access to again.

How would that work? We have no idea whose email address it is let alone have access to it. I have also read of this happening to brand new, out the box phones that have never had anything but factory software loaded on them.

Send him an email?

Is this at activation or after another account has already been loaded.

As for the “brand new” phone I’m going to bet they weren’t as brand new as the Byers thought they were. (Or as below it’s pulling it from the old device being migrated)

**

Also are you migrating from a different phone? Then as per the message this is coming from the other device and it has another account loaded onto the store at some point and has apps loaded linked to it.

Yup after reading your links it has nothing to do with the new phone, it’s being pulled from the old phone as part of the migration/restore.

The problem exists on the old device. Not the new one, you are just moving it around.

Yeah, but how does that email get linked to her Apple account? My fiancé has no idea who the person is or the email address and she is not alone, all the people in the links I posted have no idea who the linked email belongs to.

It’s not linked to the Apple Account.

It’s linked to the backup of the phone used either via iCloud or direct migration.

At some point that account was loaded on the device (or two or three before it even) and used to download some apps that are still being used on the device.

If you start truly fresh it will be gone.

Sometimes it’s easy to see which apps simply won’t update, those are the ones linked to that account. Delete them and download them from the real account and problem may go away.

I can guarantee that account (email) was never loaded on my fiancé's phone, she has had it from brand new, straight out of a sealed box from Vodacom.

Have you asked your fiancé who the hell Karl is? His apps are on her phone.

Was it used on a corporate network where IT assisted?

Was it ever sent for repairs?

Has she ever cheated on you?

No such thing on an iPhone; unless Jailbroken. And the factory reset would have removed the jailbreak in any case.

@Neuk_ - you come right bud?
Um... there are many ways to get unofficial apps on IOS. Jailbreak being one such option... many other code signing sites ipawind, etc also publish apps that aren’t published on the App Store. If one such app is in the phone iCloud backup, that would explain the “error” message.
