Apple’s iPhone 3G walks away with the accolade of being the top selling mobile phone in the US for third quarter.
Motorola’s Razr was, the former number one best seller, was bumped down to second place. It held the first place spot for 12 consecutive quarters only to run slap bang into marketing monster – Apple Inc.
There are very few contemporary companies that know how to market a product better than Apple. Steve Jobs deserves a pat on the back for his success at making many of Apple’s products the epitome of ‘cool’.
Rounding out the top five handset models were Research In Motion third-place Blackberry Curve, followed by the LG Rumor and the LG enV2 reported Information Week.
One the whole handsets with a QWERTY keyboard experienced the greatest year-on-year rise in sales according to NPD. They accounted for 30 percent of all handsets sold in Q3, a rise from just 11 percent last year.
Features that attracted buyers:
43% of people wanted a camera
36% listed the ability to send and receive text messages as important
