I now have an iBrick, or rather Vodacom has my iBrick. Got the phone last month, activitated it and used it for a month. Then last week it all of a sudden wanted to be reactivated... to no avail. Took it into Vodacom support, they took the phone and told me I have to wait 7 days before they will give me a replacement. I am now walking around with an old Nokia that can only sms and make calls. Darn I miss my iPhone.

Has anyone else had problems with activation.

They're supposed to have stock on hand to swop out arent they?

That's most annoying.

Did you try and jailbreak it in any way?

Were you using a Vodacom or MTN simcard?

I don't understand why you just didn't re-activate it yourself.

Or restore the firmware to 2.1.

Why did you think it was necessary to send it to Vodacare? I mean with a little help from us on this forum, you probably could have over come the issue yourself..

I am constantly stunned at the amount of issues 'legal' users have reported - my jialbroken/hacked(thrice) 1st gen hasn't given me a moments hassle... honestly: if not for the volume of complaints I'd think it was nonsense and whining.

You did the right thing to take it in and not stuff around - you're paying top dollar, you have a warranty and deserve good and quick service - 7 days seems too much.

It was prob just the firmware he could have restored his firmware... but now hes going to get a "refurbished" unit am i wrong?
lol thats gonna suck balls!

No the phone is not jail broken. Its legal with no software hacks.
I understand this to be a common problem. Its related to the firmware. And yes I did restore to orginal firmware... ie. hold the main button while plugging the device into the pc. It did restore but the problem persisted.

Apparently iPhones do not get fixed, they get replaced and the wait is 7 working days.

There is no chance your iPhone will get replaced.

They going to restore it to a newer firmware and give it back to you....

A process you could've done yourself with the use of iTunes.

I restored the firmware already. It did not fix the problem.
I will keep you informed as to whether the phone was replaced.

The iPhone was replaced. Unit only... accessories was from old phone.
I have tried to activate, but my companies internet policy does not allow access to the iTunes/Apps store... ie. my next challenge to get that policy re-examined.

I will let you guys know how it went once I am able to activate at home.

Are you sure? AFAIK Apple treats iPods and iPhones as consumables and they are almost always replaced as opposed to repaired - that's where the refurbs are born... AFAIK.

SlinkyMike you are right - Mine was replaced - Just got it today after a 7 day wait. Vodacare says they will replace a faulty iPhone even if it is a software related problem as it cannot be repaired. They of cause won't solve ID 10 T problems.

Good to hear you got a replacement, so you were having activation issues not firmware issues?
