Hey guys my mate got a new iPhone 4s and he said it wasn't auto rotating. I went into his settings and checked all is fine. I then checked to see if it was portrait locked but it wasn't . Anybody have any other ideas or have had this problem as well.

In did a reset via the settings and then again by holding the home and reset buttons in forn15sec but it still didn't work. I will try via iTunes and see. Thanks

Is this problem happening in all apps or in some only? There are a few apps that never autorotate even if it looks like they should.

I take it when you say you "checked to see if it was portrait locked" you checked the widget at the extreme right of the multitasking bar.

In the system settings did you also check if the Mute button had been changed to a Lock button? http://mactips.info/2009/03/silence-your-iphone

Hi I did all of that in the end we just took it back and they said it must have shipped faulty. The new one now works well. Thanks all for the help.

I find a polite tap on the side of the phone helps...

lol.. kinda embarrassed but i had the same issue and so i did some scratching around on my phone..

if you double click the home button(the one and only physical button besides side things) it will bring up the process list. scroll to the left and you will see music controls and to the far left there is a block with a rotate arrow. if you touch that it will lock orientation to current view or if u see a lock in it, it is locked to whatever view it was. also note some apps allow you to lock them in a view too, e.g. whatsapp
