Really interested to see if this resolves it....

And....it works , first try it completed restore without error but the phone went back into recovery mode, tried again and same thing happened then disconnected from itunes and rebooted the phone, when it came on it went back to restoring and this time it completed.
Now my 64GB 6 is working, just need to put it back together as it was in pieces. Glad i never threw it away.

So as I understand it, the fingerprint scanner will be disabled, but the rest works as expected?

Yes, that seems the gist of the statement. No print reader but otherwise all working.

Ok,so just an update, there are a couple of issues with the phone and i think apple just gave us a half baked solution to get people off their backs,
1. The home button COMPLETELY doesn't work, even just clicking does nothing,i have tried a couple of other home buttons with no luck.have to use assistive touch here.
2.The WIFI is greyed out, going on to the "about " page i see the wifi address is missing N/A ,also missing is the Imei number, there isn't even where it says imei, Modem firmware is blank.
3.If i reboot the phone while its plugged on to the computer it goes back into recovery mode but if you take it off and reboot starts normally.
Another weird thing is when i finished restoring the phone it didn't go to activation lock to ask for my apple ID but just started a new phone.
All this i think is caused by the fact that the phone did not completely restore the firmware, hope there will be an update soon to fix this.
Everything thing else works normally so will just use it as is for now,got nothing really to lose as i had written off this phone long back.

Shame that 6 looks like it had a hard life

Read yesterday that this is apparently also going to be addressed by Apple?

Never read the article - just saw the headlines, so not sure what it involves.

Post 39, a few days ago ;).

Right. Thanks for that - will serve as a useful reminder to read those few posts above the last few of the previous page! :D

I thought the brave soul attempting the fix earlier was doing so on their own steam - didn't realise that was premised by the Apple fix.
