Good news for iPhone users South Africa

Apple is planning to use artificial intelligence technology to address a frequent source of customer frustration: the iPhone’s battery life.

The company is planning an AI-powered battery management mode for iOS 19, an iPhone software update due in September, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
 
Battery life is good for me already considering the small battery size inside. I get the same or even better SOT than my old Androids with 5000mAh battery.

Yes, but part of that was battery health.

Customers have long suspected iPhones slow down over time. Now, Apple has confirmed some models do.

The battery can't deliver as much power once it ages, so they nerf it. The issue is not that they do that, but that they are not transparent about it. The battery health stats saying that your battery needs to be replaced are due to court actions, since most users would just go "phone is slow, buy a new one" rather than knowing why it's slow.

Google already does so since 2018, called "adaptive battery":

which is mentioned as part of their article on the iOS 19 upgrade.

And Apple definitely uses ML as well, this is from 2017:
In an interview with MIT Technology Review conducted a few hours after the meeting with Picard, Cook ticks off a list: image recognition in our photos, for example, or the way Apple Music learns from what we have been listening to and adjusts its recommendations accordingly. Even the iPhone battery lasts longer now because the phone’s power management system uses machine learning to study our usage and adjust accordingly, he says.

The iOS 19 announcement is just them using newer models, not that it's something revolutionary.

So the "updates" are just number changes... Got it... At least iPhones get 5 years of "updates" I mean number changes.

But for the phones that can, we'll get the battery equivilant of the below.

I think until they can match the rest of the world with AI, they need to make sure it doesn't interfere with critical things like a battery.

Oh I'm sorry, did I step on your little toe toes? But you've still never answered us on why you're obsessed with updates that don't bring you new features anyway? Do you love that nice little number change? Does it make you feel all warm and fuzzy, unlike that cashier?

At the rate Apple is going with AI, it will be on iPhone 18, cause it would need some special chip that is only for that model and ones after, the previous models get their "updates" as per usual.

I was looking for my Action Mode on my iPhone 13 Pro ... and realised only the iPhone 14 series has the Action Mode chip

I can look at the software updates to fool myself that it is, yup.

Hey some people set their entire personality and life ambitions on it, it's the reason they changed over and it's apparently the reason Android sucks. Though there are many more OEMs for Android than just Apple and the bigger ones are now starting 7 years of updates. But even though they claim that, they did warn that some features won't carry over due to hardware limitations. I would just settle for security and patching like Apple does, that's fine. We know what to expect.

Why cause I hurt your little feelings? Don't like being challenged? Don't like your precious Apple being called a phone? Cause that's all it is, you don't have to base your entire image around it. You have a phone, it's a pretty good one. Does it smoke some and not others sure, but it's a phone.
Perhaps when you're a big boy you'll realise that tech changes and defending something so vehemently is just eh. You don't need to hop in and throw the Apple at people all the time, we get it, you love it. You're sounding like a cross fit vegan, who wants us to know they are a vegan who cross fits still.
Love your device sure, but accept the fact that others love theirs and sometimes some people aren't going to love your device like you do.
