If I get this, will it be the default photo app and not use the standard program?
So, if I take a photo - it goes straight iPhoto and even the Photo icon disappears?

I want to replace the standard

No, but they both browse the same photo library. So if you take a photo, or add one to your iPad, you can access it in both.

The usual photos app remains, You can't remove it without a jailbreak. You can hide it in a folder somewhere, that's about it.

It's a super app by the way, really impressed with it. The adjustments and brushes are very powerful, and it's cool that you can apply and undo the effects in any order, independently of each other. And at any point you can revert to the original photo. The UI is really slick too, we oohed and aahed a lot while playing with it :)

Thanks.

I'd guess on the iPad 2 it'd for photos loaded and not taken with the camera though, as it's so low end and of no real value? Surely the iPad 1 can load photos?

This brings another point - wont they have to separating iTunes eventually by device?

Sure, everything may be compatible now - but when iPad 4 is out?
Downloading an app to take advantage of iPad 4 could be a horrible experience on iPad 1 or 2

I wanted to get it, but it only works on iPad 2 and 3.

The iPad 1 doesn't have a camera, so you can't use it.
Stoopid...
I think the first gen iPad might not have enough under the hood.

There are many apps that are restricted: iPad 2 only or whatever.

You can hack iPhoto onto an iPad 1. It's already been shown to work. It works fine but obviously with performance limitations. I think Apple probably decided it was too laggy on 19MP edits or something.

Ah ok

So - if an iPad 1 user searches for an app, only those that work on his device are shown?

In otherwords, he doesn't even see it advertised?

If you're on your iPad 1, yes you won't see it in the store, and won't be able to download it. If you're in iTunes you will be able to buy it, by not be able to sync it to your iPad 1, which can cause frustration. So always check the requirements on the left before you buy an app.

Yes you will - I checked last night.

There is a way to load it onto a first gen (http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-install-iphoto-app-for-ios-on-ipad-1-video/) which I'm going to try later (I still have to update that device to 5.1).

Ok, so iPhoto works on the first gen iPad but not nearly as responsively as on my iPad2. I haven't thrown any really big images at it yet but I'll do a little side-by-side comparison later.
