My brother has asked me to look at his 30G iPod Classic. Having lost the power cord he has been using the USB cable bt after leaving the iPod uncharged for some time the gadget is now refusing to charge. Would welcome some advice and tips to resolve the issue.

dude, if you have (or know of anyone who has) an iPhone/iPad socket charger - use that to charge the iPod..
I have a really old iPod Nano which i thought the battery was kaput.. but after plugging it into the wall socket.. IT WORKS!!

My wife left her 30 gig in the cupboard for more than 6 months and then wanted to use it.
I plugged it in via usb and it seemed dead. I left it there for 1/2 and hour, still dead. I then left it connected for a day or so (I actually forgot about it) and when I checked again it was fully charged and working.
But yea, I'm sure any usb wall charger will give it a kick. You can pick them up from Look n listen. Its a good investment to get one with multiple ports.

AFAIK - Apple devices need 5 volts to charge, if your laptop does not give that then it wont charge
