So my Ipod is no longer functional however I still have the hard drive and would like to recover the data.

Is that at all possible?
I can't seem to figure out what connector it has but it's a Toshiba hard drive.

There are cases that can fit that drive in. Would most likely need to be imported

Is it completely dead, or does it still show up when connected to a pc?

Either way something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/1-8-inch-Enclosure-Toshiba-Connector-Assorted/dp/B001OYCJHI

and then some data recovery software. I've used getdataback and stellar pheonix before - it's worth the few $ to buy it if the information is important.

If you dont mind getting your hands dirty a bit: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-LYSB009H79TLI-CMPTRACCS-Adapter/dp/B009H79TLI

and a pc to use as a working area :)

Alternative use one of the data recovery guys - but expect to pay R2,5K and upwards.

Sweet thank you, I will give those links a read in a moment.

Yea it's completely dead ie the circuit board is broken.

All I have left is the harddrive itself.

I'm going to wager a bet that the data will be encrypted and the music files cannot simply be copied over.

Much easier just to go sailing and collect the music again.

Not on the old ipods.

However, the music files won't be named anything useful.
