I recently installed iOS 5 on my ipod touch. While i enjoy the new features, There are a few things that make me regret doing so.

Firstly I cannot restore my backup to my device. I just get an error saying that the backup has failed. I however restored my pictures by finding the backup folder and converting the files back to a .jpg format and copying them back.

Even if i create a new backup with the new version of iOS, it doesnt restore it (I tried this to troubleshoot)

Another thing i noticed is that the device is a bit slower, it lags here and there. It takes about a second to register a touch e.g. typing a word.

Another annoying issue is with the youtube app. I find that when you view a video in landscape, the progress bar when playing the video is non responsive.

When I browse the net on safari, the browser crashes more often.

Can anyone please help me here. My device hasnt been dropped. It is not jailbroken. It hardly has apps installed. So there is much free space. Only 2,5 out of the 32 gigs are used so far.

Hi

It shouldn't be slower. I am running an Itouch 4g 64GB and the speed is pretty much the same. You may have to reinstall ios5 if you have issues like the ones you have noted.

On the backup issue. How many backups of the itouch do you have? Hopefully you have more than 1. If so I would suggest reinstalling ios5 and then loading an older(oldest) backup. Your current backup is most probably corrupt. If you already had everything that you had on the touch that was user created backed up (ie photos) I would suggest just clean installing ios5 and start from scratch. Itunes will reinstall all the apps when you load as a new device.

I have noted that the issue where you can not backup can occur due to a firewall. I noticed this with zone alarm. When it was running itunes would constantly say that the device can not be backed up (and if it does backup, that backup will be corrupted). If you close zone alarm (or any other firewall prog) this should go away.

Also noted a slight decrease in speed since the update. Nothing major though, just need to close some apps and then everything is fine. 5.01 should fix most of the small issues for most people.

Speed issues on my iphone 4 as well. Tried iOS 5.0.1 as well. Thought that maybe restoring from my backup was causing it so tried a clean install with no restoring from a backup as well. Still slow. Went back to 4.3.3. And I'm happy again

Mine ran a bit hotter and slower than I was used to after installing iOS5. Battery life wasn't up to much either. Went into Settings and turned off Push and Location data on everything I could find, then selectively re-enabled it in those few cases where I really wanted it. Runs fine now.

If iPod touch is slow with new iOS then uninstall this OS and reinstall with proper configurations. this will help to enhance its speed. But it will also remove all available data of ipod touch device. It is advised to backup ipod touch using itunes before making any changes in present configurations.
