Any iRacers out there?

http://www.iracing.com/

Subscription based online racing sim. I've been at it for a while now. Can require a fair amount of time to be truly competitive, but it tends to keep you in the right racing bracket based on your general driving skill.

I'm not particularly fast, but I really enjoy the fact that because of the safety rating system the racing is much more "professional." It's not like in other games with no penalties where someone will just intentionally/illegally cut you off or fishtail you because they don't want you to pass them....because collisions are a major penalty for both drivers.

I enjoyed driving the Skip Barber and was struggling to find a car I like in the C Class....but had a strange experience yesterday where the car I was the worst at driving (the Lotus 49...its damn near impossible to keep on the road) actually landed up being a whole lot of fun after I got some tips and a setup from one of the veterans in a practice session. Had my first race with it that night at Watson Glen and didn't come last so happy days! It's actually an adrenaline rush just finishing a clean race, let alone winning one (which I haven't yet :P).

Have been a member since launch (2008, I think). By far the best out there. Like you, don't claim to be fast, but always try and shoot for clean races, with hopefully a top 5 finish. Have taken a break from the service for a while (need to get my rig sorted). That's the beauty of the service - you don't need to commit to daily or weekly participation. Hands down the racing simulation of choice for me, and I've tried them all.

OK thanks that's quite a big list of tracks although mainly oval.

Do you know of any other racing sims with SA tracks?

I don't unfortunately. My experience with these games is fairly limited as I haven't really dug into it properly yet.

I seem to recall reading at one point somewhere (I was also looking for a game that did Kyalami) that rFactor1 had it as a fan made mod.

It's tough because companies tend to first focus on the tracks from their general location, and then move out to the other big name tracks in Europe and the US, with sometimes the big name tracks from Asia (e.g. Suzuka).
Assetto Corsa is a good example of that with it's predominantly Italian tracks.

It's a pity because I'd love to drive Kyalami. Lots of history there.

RFactor has Kyalami. There's the old version from the 70's and the current version with the chicane. I've driven both version and they are reall good.

I'm currently racing in iRacing's Grand Prix Series (Williams FW31) and also do the odd race in the Star Mazda series and World Sports Car Series (Honda HPD). I've raced with RFactor in several leagues since 2006 but since I moved to iRacing, I won't go back to RFactor. iRacing is not cheap but is far more professional, highest quality tracks and cars and a safety rating system that minimizes the chance of you driving with idiots. I highly recommend iRacing to anyone that wants to race in a structured environment but also allows you to race at your own pace and at your time schedules.

If you are really quick, then you can compete for the World Championship to win $10 000 and a trip to the USA to drive real racing cars etc.

I see the last post is quite old, any iRacers out there I can add to my contact list? PM me your names, keen to get some local sessions going

Here's some action from my GT3 race at Zolder over the weekend (I'm the yellow "Batman" BMW. Pings about 220ms, but fortunately good iRacing netcode. Managed to finish 5th from a starting grid of 30. Sorry for the poor quality - captured with my phone.

Been racing for about 6 months now. Just finished my 2nd season in the Skip and currently at 2.1k iRating. Unsure of what to do for next season yet. I have the Star Mazda, DW12, HPD, BMW, Aston.

Drop me a message for a friend request. Always great to race with locals.

I've been racing the skippy, will be taking on the Star Mazda series in this coming season. Will miss 2 weeks while i'm in the US (Sebring and Spa ), but should be active on the rest starting with Road Atlanta next week.

Anyone still playing iRacing? I just got into it a few days ago coming from games like R3E and Assetto Corsa... I love the whole professional approach to iRacing....

I kept having problems with my wheel, so haven't raced in a long time. I'm actually waiting for my Oculus Rift to come before I get back into it a bit.
