IRC chat on cellphone?

I installed jmIrc on my spare Sony Ericsson P990i running the latest firmware and UIQ3 or something like that.
On vodacom with an unrestricted APN.

When trying to connect to any IRC server it gives me.
Symbian OS error -4161
Which means: TelephonyGSMMobilityManagement
NetworkErrors (EXTERROR.H) KErrGsmMMServiceOptionNotSubscribed -4161 Service not subscribed. Contact cellular network operator.

Any ideas? does Vodacom allow you to connect to IRC ports? (6666-6670)

I know this probably won't help, but jmirc works fine with my sony on MTN.

I doubt vodacom would block those ports but yeah, anything is possible.

ports are blocked; most probably you're trying to use the same connection you use to send MMS messages. I found they tightened that over the years (I used to use my MMS settings to connect to the internet when the GPRS was up to ****)

yep. it was blocked. i decided to try changing my apn on my phone to 'unrestricted'. it defaulted to 'internet'.
Works like a charm
Figuring out that ur meant to press numbers to change selected channel/user was tricky (i used it with qwerty, flap open)

WLirc looks a lot nicer, but i couldn't figure out how to send a line of text into the channel (other than menu>actions>send)
and then the names disappeared i couldn't figure out how to get them back.
Clicking on names doesn't work. not sure how to query ppl on a channel.
I think ur just meant to type Join blah. or Query blah, without a forward slash.
