I just want to know if everyone is experiencing this, I ping www.google.com on a regular basis over the last 2 weeks and since the end of last month the pings have become irregular and unstable, previously over a 60 packet ping the pings would never skip more than 3-4ms, now however I have regular intervals where ping times jump up more than 100ms. Is there something happening that I'm unaware of? What is up with this as it is currently affecting my international gaming(use to at least be stable).Just looking for information since I know I can't get the resolution :)

dude international gaming adsl is a no go there will be ping spikes.how you can play overseas i dunno but flying a chopper helps but not with conn probs my advice stay local then there will be nothing wrong

All I can say is that that is the way it was in the old days when ADSL first came out - 2001 methinks.

Back then, at 01H00 in the morning, I could play a FPS in denmark at 180ms - 220ms lag, pings returning at around the 190ms mark from www.gamesunited.de.

Since late 2003, saix did something that regulated the international "jump" so that a ping would always return above the 340ms mark, no matter what time of day/night/year, and no matter how much traffic is on the international links.

So - my theory is that saix is experimenting with dropping that regulating thing again, and that to me would be wonderful, but it'z just a theory.

ps = I ping google - returns at 340ms steady and constant.

Just got home to do a quick ping on my account and this is the stats(won't post the whole thing just average/max/min:
Packets: Sent = 60, Received = 60, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 360ms, Maximum = 611ms, Average = 386ms

Now this only started a few days ago... I don't know what is going on or why... but that 611ms is rubbish and should never happen unless google is taking strain which I doubt.Could this just be an isolated problem in DBN?

stoke - the answer, back then saix was completely unshaped and international gaming worked great. Then they thought of introducing unshaped and shaped packages, well to tell you boldly.. unshaped means partly shaped, and shaped means SHAAAAAAAPED!

The more adsl users, the more their shaping the shaped adsl accounts nowadays, so the worse it get the more users they raking up(can do mental counting if u like) and on the flipside I do believe the unshaped is also partly shaped and artificially boosted(latency for one)

Anyways, hellhound, I send you a pm.. let me know.

I called my ISP namely Imaginet and then asked them if telkom has informed them of any issues, apperantly there seems to be a problem with international bandwidth,naturally Telkom didn't say when this will be resolved only that there is a problem I'll give them a week or two and then see how it goes.
