I'm experiencing a very irritating internet problem and can't seem to get any help at all from my ISP (WebAfrica).

I'm using IE7. I open the web browser and surf along fine for a short while. Then, suddenly it stops resolving addresses and if I refresh my IE I get the normal "IE cant display the webpage" message - no connection, DNS error. If I try to open a link from the webpage to another tab or window I get this message.

However, if I open a new instance of IE I can navigate to the page I want and all works fine - for a while. Then suddenly the error reapears. I have to open a new instance and start again.

If I leave a "broken" instance of IE open and refesh the page an hour or two later it all works fine again - for a while.

I am using the DNS servers provided by WebAfrica on behalf of IS.

If someone can please help me or give me some idea of what's wrong I'd greatly appreciate it. I dont get any support at all from WebAfrica.

Thanking you in advance.

I normally set my DNS as my router IP which then forwards the requests. Also with WebAfrica but on SAIX and never had this issue.

Thanks Juggy - I'll try that.

We have the uncapped static ip solution from IS but through WebAfrica. Our exchange also uses DNS to route email and not all messages find their recipients so this is really causing problems now.

JUGGY - your solution worked briefly but my problem is still there. Changed settings back to what they were.

Surv0 - I understand many people dislike MS and their products but IE works just fine on my iBurst and 3G connections. It's just this very expensive connection that gives me problems. Therefore I think I can assume it's not IE.

If only my ISP could be as efficient as the people on this forum!

sounds like a dodgy dns... hate to see you using IE though, get rid of that thing quickly...

There nothing wrong with IE. It works just as well as FireFox. I use both (because I use two different proxy servers) and never had problems with either one.

Install firefox it's a small quick download and installation and should help you determine if your problem is IE7 or your DNS

The problem was with DNS settings on my pre-configured router. I hate not being allowed to fiddle with my router setting but I guess they are just protecting themselves so idiots don't change stuff.

Anyway, the problem seem to be solved and IE was not to blame.

It seems Microsoft and Telkom get blamed for everything these days but sometimes it's actualy something else.

Thanks all for your suggestions and help.
