Hi guys,

I'm looking for a quick and effective wireless broadband solution for university. I'll be using it mainly to check e-mail, news and do research. Will 500mb be sufficent for a month?

Also, I'm on the TopUP 200 package at the moment. Is there no deal available to bolt on a 500mb data bundle with a modem included? If not, is the R249.00 p/m option the correct one to take?

Many thanks!

P.S I have DSL at home but will only have access to it on weekends so just need a solution for weekdays.

I find this post a little ironic... you are going to be at an institution that probably has some of the best internet access in the country and yet it is still not nearly enough to get any useful work done online

If you have ADSL at home then i would think that 500MB would be sufficient for you for your needs. If you leave all the YouTube vids and downloads for home then you should get through a good stack of emails and plenty of online research on a 500MB cap. If you find that you are downloading many large e-books or viewing media rich content with lots of graphics then you may reach your cap but if you plan things properly then you can always wait until the evening when you get home for that stuff.

Thanks ambo. The sweet irony is that fact that students have a 200mb cap that they are to use over a period of 12 months, which is a little under 17mb per month.

Our internet access is also slow (sometimes taking over 30minutes to download a 4mb .pdf) and with a measly 17mb to deal with a month I can hardly call that 'some of the best internet access in the country.'

You can certainly survive on 500MB for weekdays, if you have ADSL at the weekends. I use either MTN 100MB or the new Vodacom 150MB bundles for daytime only and I usually don't use it up. It really depends how much you'll be using it after classes and if you're addicted to YouTube or if friends send you 25MB of funny pics a day. Or the other use.
