I'm guessing yes, but I'm wondering if it's likely that in 6 months or a year they might look at a refund they gave and decide it wasn't due and demand it back? Anyone have any experience like this?

It is possible, yes. SARS refunded a colleague of mine and a week later decided they want 80% of the cash back...

If they reverse the refund because of false information then you're going to have bigger problems than just having to give the money back.

Best way is to come clean, no penalties payable with the new TAB. But if SARS were to conduct an audit and find that you got money you didn't deserve, penalties will be added.

You're lucky SARS even refunds you, they still owe me over 40k for over a year and want me to verify that that amount is actually mine and that I will allow them (via written consent with a witness and oath) to use that money to offset against any future tax obligations i have to pay them. The amount of times I have been to Randburg is ridiculous, and no interest on that amount too.
