Im just wondering how can IS offer a 3gb account with 27gb local cap at the same price of a normal 3gb saix account ??

Whats the real price of local bandwidth if its not free ?

As far as i know local bandwith is for all intents and purposes free, but the maintenance of th infrastructure and the peering cost with SAIX comes in to play.

Most (about 70-80%) of the local network is hosted on IS so it probably costs them next to nothing once their overheads are taken care of.

the trick is to make eveyone pay for the bandwidth twice.
The guys hosting servers pay per meg.
The guys with leased lines pay per 64k to access the hosting servers.
and then the ADSL users come along......

Come to think of it, it seems like we are getting ripped off by IS too. I mean they had no special reason to impose a 30G local cap, other than the fact that Hellkom decided to hard-cap. I mean the whole point is that they are 'independent' to Hellkom, whatever that means

Correct me if I'm wrong please

Well they're only independant if you disregard the gigantic peering costs and the fact that even if they do host most local they dont host all, also I think (not really sure) that their use of satelites for bandwith as opposed to SAT3 is only possible at competitive prices because Telkom is so over priced. Again I could be wrong.
