I have been using a couple of 10GB Local Only accounts this month - and have watched the Usage Stats on the IS site increase rather alarmingly. I AM downloading content, but am pretty sure that my usage is less than what is being reported.

My question is this: Does anyone else feel that they are being robbed of CAP on the IS local accounts? I feel that I am. There is no ways I have downloaded as much as the site says I have - I know how much I pull.

Thoughts?

That depends on how much over it is?

Because of ADSL overheads taking bandwidth, you will have roughly 10% more showing on the tracker. So say you download a 1GB file, the tracker will show +/- 1.1GB downloaded and uploaded. Same reason you do not get 48kB/s on a 384kbps line... overheads.

I discovered this when my download monitor showed I only uploaded about 100kB the day, but the tracker showed almost 5MB uploaded.

If it is much more over than 10-15% it could be something else, possibly bandwidth theft.

My feeling is that it is 25% - 50% over what it should be.........

I wonder if it is worth asking Openweb to investigate?

strange dude

get a bandwidth monitor and watch everything you download

if this still happens let the forums know and move away from openweb

I'm running the account on 2 lines at 2 different locations... so ya i could get a bandwidth monitor but it is 6 pc's on the 1 site and 4 pc's on the other site... so it will be a mission...

on the 30GB accounts the monitor runs true.... but on the 10GB accounts they add up WAAY too quickly

I don't think so - because I have looked at the concurrent sessions and there are only 2 - which is correct for my 2 ADSL lines......

I would imagine this is purely an over-eager bandwidth counter on IS's side!

There are other factors as well, a bad line could result in lots of resends thus pushing up the usage.

Over the weekend I had some IP trying to connect to my machine every few seconds, highly annoying, had to reset and get another IP. That also pushes up usage, but not by much.

For 25-50% over definitely investigate. Have you already ruled out other applications on your machine that might've used it? High CRC error count on one of the lines maybe?

I just think the tracker rounds the numbers down. ive noticed it aswell. Like 501mb will become 600mb on the tracker for some reason. My connection idled for 2 days cause my pc had a problem with the OS. When i checked 200mb was transfered. From and idle connection only?

One thing I have noticed - when I have international on the local only account - the tracker increases MUCH more than if it is true local only...

Think they are trying to punish me?
