Is bootstrap really worth it?

Do I need to learn bootstrap for web development or rather learn something else?

Currently know HTML5 CSS3 and jQuery...

Going for :

Javascript/AJAX
PHP
MySQL

Maybe some day Rails.

I'd like to become a full stack web developer.

Perhaps handy, but not the correct tool always. I find the grid layout system to be kinda lacking...

is it just me or does bootstrap make web design too easy:wtf:

I'd like to become a full stack web developer.

It is very hard to be proficient in both the front and backend. As mainly a backend dev, no one cares if I went and manually designed everything. They just want it to look pretty and be responsive, the logic behind the scenes is what counts.

I'd prefer to be a back-end dev to work on big projects or make changes in projects that doesn't work correctly.
I always wanted to make big changes to stuff or improve things - and I think I would be able to do it with back end development or making web apps and cloud apps?

Im learning front-end now so I can maybe make a little extra money on the side and if all else fails I have at least some kind of way to go :D

Ok so I also made a template that looks exactly like this :p:wtf::wtf:

I guess there won't be much money involved in front end if anyone can just paste a few code and change the words...

Which backend languages would be good to start at?? PHP, Ruby, some JS stuff like node??? SQL or some database stuff??

Well PHP is dead, I'm going to get flamed whatever.
You could go full JS for front and backend. Also ASP.NET for the backend.
ASP.NET core is looking exciting since its cross platform and modular its very fast atm.

PHP has its problems (many of them), but saying that it is dead is like saying that the Toyota Corolla is dead. Sure, it might be old, but it is still one of the most used cars in the country.

If you're looking to make simple websites, PHP is definitely still the way to go. With CMS software like WordPress powering over 25% of the (visible) web, there is still going to be need for PHP developers, and certainly a need for PHP maintenance, considering pretty much all websites have got some PHP under the hood.

Definitely don't invest your life into PHP, though. Just learn how to use it enough that it can be a tool you know how to use.

I think it looks Exactly what a bootstrap site looks like :/

Without knowing I would have said 90% chance it was bootstrap..

that site looks nothing like a bootstrap site. pretty sure only bootstrap layout/grid was used.
imo, obvious bootstrap sites are the ones with default blue buttons with that bit of radius.

It shouldnt actually, in another post here, i mentioned that I designed it in photoshop, then pure php, html and css, then converted it to foundation and then converted it to bootstrap.

So saying it looks like a bootstrap site is a bit far fetched.

maybe i wasn't clear but I was agreeing with you! How he/she deduced that it was a bootstrap site is beyond me.

Anyway, my two cents is learn what backend programming does, it's pretty much all the same and if you understand the principles, you just need to learn the Syntax.

p.s. the Mobile First approach broke the internet... It's made the net super mundane... image text, image text.. scroll scroll scroll, look I'm a zombie.

So bootstrap is good to know but learn how to change it.

See my signature, that was built in Bootstrap and Wordpress. Doesn't look Bootstrappy.

Sorry bro but the icon placement of the calendars in the arrival - departure inputs freak me out.

Anyways, a decent example of how not to make things look like a typical bootstrap website.

In what way does it freak you out? It's not working yet (just saying).
