IS can't set their routers to bridge !?

exactly why doesn't IS want to have their ±R1700 routers not in bridge.

is there any isp willing to answer this question ?

bying an uncapped option now you are stuck with this router and you are not allowed to use unshaped with it !

onto the next question then.

can i have a statically configured router plugged into a bridged router via the lan plugs?

pcs -> IS router from hell -> router bridged -> telephone cable

i had this setup before

pcs -> dlink gaming lounge router -> router bridged -> telephone cable

which did work...

hearing whispers of 'Exploiting Cisco Routers' ;)

I believe some of the service policy enforcement is done on the router itself, therefore IS doesnt allow customers access to the router config or the ability to bypass it (by bridging).
 
shalt thou now start wearing shirts with router exploits on ?

if your pc can access the router for internet then you can access the router with non normal methods...
 
Anyone tried to run a password recovery on the IS routers? If you can get in, then you add additional accounts etc onto it.

well if you iexplore it and it asks for a user + pwd then you can use a fairly simple method to get the details if not then here are other ways.

You use a console cable and terminal program to recover it usually.
 
i see atleast XDSL is not as hard assed as IS and do let you use your own router for their uncapped, which btw is unshaped too.
just wondering at the cost of their 100/100 split to normal 75/25 - local/int.

one should wonder why the router in the first place with all its secrecy - are they doing something illegal !
 
The use your own router one is a different product (no static IPs) and probably has different policy enforcement.
 
so only their routers are good enough and able to do static ips ? - what a misconception...

lets us be idiots too and sell cars with locked bonnets - its against our policy to let the customer see whats inside or service it himself, very wrong and very evil.
and while we at it limit his engine to after each 1hr passed limit the speed to 60km/ph for till he has passed the 10 day threshold.

To get static IPs running on Telkom's (dynamic only) network, requires some quite complicated routing trickery, including L2TP tunnels. Currently this can only be done with a Cisco, but I believe they are migrating to a high-end Billion model (which supports the required config) to save costs.

i see. still sure that high and mighty router can support bridged, but not too much of an issue of you plug that into a bridged router which is connected to the phone line as to my original question.

It does but that wouldnt be enough. You'd need to simulate the L2TP end-point and static NAT functionality (to the 5 static IPs) as well. Even if you could get the L2TP user/passwd, its just too much effort, rather find a different service that better meets your needs.
 
still doesn't really answer whether its possible to have the cisco router as it is current setup with bridge mode enabled on it or IS is unwilling to do it.

Uncapped with Billions are possible, we only use Billions. The setup is actually very simple and easy. If you use a Billion that can bridge and route all of the above is already possible.

which then brings me back to my original point:

why can i have the cisco router bridged and route at the same time from those isp's who sells is uncapped with the router.

speaking now of ODS/Openweb/Webafrica - anyone willing of those 3 to test this setup ?

I complained to IS about this before, i would like to be able to dial a saix dsl account on the many occasions that IS is down/dog slow... their answer... not possible!
 
one would wonder why the 'big' 3 is not answering this question.

or to is it possible to pair the damned router with another router.

..paying those isps R1700 setup (excludind ODS) and then R1539 p/m its not much to ask to really test it and
and actualy start a converstion with IS which of late seems to ignore your emails.

according to cisco internional call center it should be able to do both.

...now awaiting IS response
