ok so i reached my cap on an IS account, but i found that i can still browse international at a reduced speed - maybe slightly slower than dial-up. when i was with SAIX it was close to impossible to access international sites especially towards the month end. anybody else on an IS account experiencing this?

Yep i too hit the cap i get a constant 3kb to 5kb on international sites.:)
Must say IS is doing pretty good so far!

Yep the same about 5kb to international sites:)

Moving from saix to IS was a very good move indeed:) :)

Do torrents still work? Because with 5kb/s constant speed going the whole month, you could probably download quite a bit. (Well, quite a bit more than 3gb, anyway.)

Yes it does. Sometimes more than 5kbs but that is normaly late at night early morning around 8kbs till about 7am to 8 am then it dies to 1kbs. But u still have local access :)

Sweet! I'm capped as well, and most of the sites I visit everyday are loading without a hitch!

Take that, you SAIXians!

this is too cool, msn p2p http etc all working at dial-up speeds :) this was unheard of previously. big ups to IS, not often u get to say well done to someone in the SA telecomms industry, but well done IS

How did you get MSN too work? I cannot seem to get it to work on a capped IS account.

Answer: SAIX (highlight to read)

Depends on your IP (although IS may have moved all of their accounts to their range by now).
If your public ip is 165.x.x.x it is SAIX, if 196.x.x.x IS.

i kept trying. during the day it didn't want to sign in cos IS is normally slower during the day, but eventually at around 9pm it signed in and worked perfectly till i signed out at about 3am

All depends on the current usage of international "capped" pool. Basicly, once IS get "enough" users, international will be practicly dead as advertised on the 30gig local accounts.

Their not nearly fully utilised yet, so international is still usable after the cap, most of the time.

ermm thats the norm overseas in countries which do have caps. what makes it good is that it actually does work when you're capped, which can't be said for telkom's saix

If your public ip is 165.x.x.x it is SAIX, if 196.x.x.x IS.

To be more accurate :

IP ranges-

SAIX : either 165.165.x.x or 165.146.x.x.
IS : 196.209.x.x
UUNET : 196.47.x.x

512K MyWireless users (IIRC) are also somewhere in the 196.x.x.x range.
128K & 256K MyWireless users (again IIRC) are in 66.18.x.x
iBust is in 196.2.x.x
