There has been alot hype with CellC and the new wireless network, alot of user's are happy with the service.:p

However, does anybody know what is going to happen after 12months. After looking at Cellc's pre-paid pricing structure it is fairly obvious that it is much more expensive.:wtf:

Is this just a 12month promotional scam or are we going to see price's driven down much further ?:wtf:

As we all have noticed, MTN and Vodacom have not reacted to CellC as yet ?

Will be interesting to note what happens.......:whistle::whistle:

Yes, we just have to wait and see. But if they are not competitive after 12 months nothing stops you from voting with your cash.

Well lets hope this aint a marketing scam to gain a large customer base and then force people to pay higher prices down the line....

I don't think CellC will stick their necks out like this if they plan to screw you over.In the long run it will be disastrous for the company.Trevor Noah will probably have to emigrate.Let's be positive and wait before making any rash judgements. From what I've seen at the launch Cellc is not here to muck around as 92% of the country will be covered-come end of 2011.

Coverage may extend to 92% , but its still moola that counts. It would be nice to know their strategic intent, when customers contracts are expired....

Indeed. If they increase their prices they're playing into the hands of the other big boys who will be waiting like hungry wolves to snap up the customers they initially lost to CellC.Given how quickly customers chop and change their ISP's its a no brainer that you never belong to Cell C unless they can find a way to 'keep' you.

Screamer. Digichilly. Neotel. TopTV.
We've seen this plenty of times.

All hype in the start and after you have signed / bought the equipment.....BAM! you sit with it.
Neotel users now sit in a long contract with a slow connection. TopTV users watch endless repeats (sure it's month to month, but a lot have invested time, money and effort to set it up)

Just be happy for a year you getting a good deal with CELL C, the real problem is consumers actually support these high prices. If nobody used communication for a month - 6months, then companies will actually respond, but bare in mind with more demand comes more employment...

CELL C are the first network and remember this promotion can be available until end of March(assuming), patients we don't know what is happening next year could naked dsl be a reality and with more undersea cables coming alone bandwidth should be driven down

Force ? How ? If you don't like you walk !

Well u will technically stuck with a cellc usb dongle and if you want to continue using their service then you will be 'forced' to pay what they feel like charging you...

Or you can go over to the competition and still be ' forced' to pay tariffs that are comparably much more than you have been paying in the first year....

Nope, that dongle is not locked, it works on any network.

My daughters' Cell C reception was only Edge so I have switched her back to VC 3G - she is still using the Cell C E1752 modem, and Cell C Dashboard !

Will try a Cell C SIM in her dongle again in February next year, and see if things have improved. In the meantime I will use her data (my situation is reversed, I have VC Edge and Cell C 3G).

Well at the end of the day you get 60gigs for 3 grand where as with the others it would cost around 14 grand. A nice fast enough net and even the modem. To me its a bargain. R250 for a gig bundle? Isnt that on par with the others? Im not interested in bundles though, 5 gigs p/m is more than enough if you behave with it

How exactly is Cell C screwing anybody over?
How is the promotion a scam?

Worst case scenario: Cell C ends the promotion and only offer data at current bundle and out of bundle rates. Then you had the best value internet for 13 months + you have a pretty good dongle you can use on any 3G network (as Jola pointed out).

We are better off with Cell C than we were before their offering.

Personally I doubt this scenario, they are continuing to pour capital into this project and are collaborating with American Tower Corporation (NYSE: AMT). IMO the data bundle rates are aimed at milder users and once the promotion ends they will probably have a similar offer albeit at a slightly higher price.

And of course they need to make money out of us, they need to keep their shareholders happy, that's how the world works. Invest in these companies you hate and then you can share in the profit! (although just as you can potentially make profit you could also lose a lot of money, that's the risk Cell C is taking)

Well I don't know about you guys, but they have been dancing all around the scene lately and are making too many stuff ups

Their Logo Flop, their "4G" Scam, Trevor the clown - all they care about is marketing, and they are good at it.

As for putting R3000 down in hope of a signal next year....good luck.
These guys openly admitted to starting with small towns so they can basically figure out how to put a mast up properly

nah, i'll pass for now - their network isn't anywhere near 22mbps, and it's basically empty now - just you guys wait till a few users sign up.

I knew it was too good to be true that a dinky toy network could just one day decide to provide 3G and be better at it than Multi-Billion Rand Company like Vodacom or MTN.

It might as well have been Virgin that suddenly says "We are going to provide the bestestz 4G Netwerk EVAR!"

seriously, this would be like "Raj's Juice Company" claiming they are going to make better cola's then the Coca Cola Company itself - it just doesn't work that way and it rarely happens.

A week ago I would have joined CellC in an instant and take a Risk........ but these prices?..... I seriously don't think so!

Well, we can't be certain at THIS moment, but who says their network will hold next year?

Neotel also had good deals, and now people are stuck with 24 month contracts and 12kbps download speeds
and yes, their network worked pretty well at first too, when neotel just just started.

Good, I need all the speed that I can get. Mostly 6mbps down at the moment, way faster than ADSL 4mbps !

Wasn't aware Vodacom and MTN invented 3G...
I have to disagree with your argument as well, many smaller companies offer better and cheaper services than larger ones. Often large companies have many inherent inefficiencies which make them expensive. There are also benefits to larger companies, you just cannot claim that just because a company is smaller, that means they cannot offer a better product.

The prices didn't change they only introduced new bundle products (priced comparable with vodacom)

Fair enough, that was the risk I was prepared to take.

lol, only 6? wait till users start to sign up.

PS: I also get 6 mbps, on MTN, and that is with a sustained download, WITH actual users using the network.

A lot of them already have, and it has not changed so far.

Anyway, I only get 2 to 3 mbps from my ADSL, and it costs way more than Cell C - I need to cancel the 4mpbs ADSL asap.

The only way it can be cheaper than adsl, is if you are a casual user, needing "megs".
When you start talking multiple Gigs, it is certainly NOT cheaper (R29/Gig for ADSL vs R200/Gig for CellC)

With CellC and having a decent experience you need to take three important factors. Location, location, location.

If your location is good, the service is good.*

*Having good signal does not equal a good location as you could be between two towers and be tower hopping or in a breathing cell.

Their pricing is cheaper than a comparative adsl product. I think theyre in the right direction but will only truly respect them when they offer uncapped.
