Is cellc that bad?

Today I had full signal, data connection working, and "Emergency calls only" on the cell c network. Orsum.

I get that "Emergency Calls Only" a lot lately.... So frustrating! Sometimes there's 0 signal

Okay I specifically tested my connection around Cape Town over the weekend.

Drove from Table View to Greenpoint, had Google maps on and streaming music without any interruptions. Same thing in and around Sea Point/Greenpoint. There is absolutely no issues with my connection quality at the present time. My buddy's boss also just ported from Vodacom to CellC and he says he is so much happier now as where he works (Woodstock) and lives (Sea Point) the VC signal is horrible but has no issues with CellC. Maybe you guys are all just very unlucky :p

So from the sounds of things it seems cells is awesome in cape town and terrible in Joburg?

Depends where in JHB. Here in Harmelia, Edenvale I consistently get 8mbps in and 2mbps out. I do take many calls at all so can't really comment on that side, but my wife moans that she has to cell a few times before a connection is made.

Yesterday my phone lost connection to Cell C completely for about 2 hours though. So perhaps my area is on the downward spiral too.

I was just about ready to leave Cell C and port to Vodacom, then everything started working normally again :)... Funny how the universe works right?

Like a lot of people are saying here, it has a lot to do with location. Get yourself a prepaid CellC sim and try it out for a few weeks in different places, that will give you the best idea of what to expect.

Ditto. Cellc rocks here and in StillBay - merely lock the phone onto HSDPA and whoooooosh! Tends to beat VC hands-down.

Explains a lot. Was stuck in the CT/Sea Point area at least three times last year and my VC sim was dead in the water, throughput-wise. Had to pull over and wait for the maps to play catchup once. Although tonight I was able to load maps again at the MyADSL meet location.

I ported from Mtn to Cell C in January this year... BEST move I've made... But then again location. I'm in Natal and got

Aaah pressed wrong button

Got the voice n data on the iPhone deal they had.. Never had problems with the operator services but had a few dropped calls. Then again where I stay and work , I get good signal

Their network is today completely farked in Alberton, it jumps between roaming, no signal, data, no data the whole time. They are not providing the service I am paying for.

I was in Pretoria and Joburg over the weekend and I can say that I am very glad I don't stay there anymore. Mobile data on Cell C was extremely bad almost everywhere I went. I had to force my phone to use 2G as my battery would drain too quickly because of the poor signal. The only place I had reasonable reception was in Centurion.

Everything working 100% when I landed in Cape Town again. I feel sorry for you folks up north.
