I want to try Cell C's broadband data offering and am happy to pay for their USB dongle
However, in the event that their broadband data offering fails, can I use their dongle on the other networks?

I'm with you on this one.

For example, If i go down to Margate on holiday and if Cell C doesn't cover that area,
I would like to able to swap the Cell C sim card with my Vodacom sim card and buy a 1GB data bundle just for the time that I am on holiday.
Reading through the forums, I don't see why not, which is good news.

But what about the managment software?
Each USB dongle comes with managment software to allow users to connect to the network, manage air-time etc
Do I need this this software, and if yes can I use Cell C's managment software on another network?

If USB dongles are not locked, and I don't need management software, should I obtain a USB dongle from another source? i.e get a better dongle elsewhere?

Cell C's management software is a customized version of Huawei Mobile Partner, it doesn't do anything to prevent you from using a SIM from another provider.

There's nothing stopping you, but R500 for the E1752 and R1000 for the E1820 will be hard to beat.

No dongles in South Africa are network locked same thing with cellphone from 2006/7 -- I have used my CELL C dongle on Vodacom and MTN, no problems at all.

Just plug-in device and click connect once you open up the dashboard.
