According to Nkanza SA is behind on cloud when compared with BRIC nations but ahead for African countries. But bandwidth appears to be the sticking point for growth in this area ...

The issue is really about getting bandwidth into our continent.

So with all the new undersea cable systems landing, and if they price the bandwidth right, will this solve the biggest part of the problem or is the big obstacle with our national backhaul bandwidth?

Even if the pricing is right for the cable systems and our national backhaul bandwidth. With the likes of Telscum not dropping prices and the mobile providers sticking to their prices, it won't ever improve here.

Cloud storage if used correctly uses a lot of bandwidth, especially for entire backups etc. and it's just not cost worthy for the average consumer.

I don't see it working here as it should, ever, as things are standing now.

Cloud will only become viable in Africa once the respective African governments gets their heads out of their arses and stop telecoms companies raping the people i.e. once the cost of accessing the cloud becomes negligible in terms of total cost.
