IS DC false alarm

Smoke coming from an Internet Solutions data centre was caused by a fire suppression system, with no disruption to IS services.

Someone is going to be in trouble... that gas costs many R100k to refill.

Doesn't ANYONE at MBB proofread these articles before they are published?

Internet Solutions’ executive, Greg Montjoi,e said that it is currently not clear what triggered the fire-suppression system in the data centre, and that it may have been a manual trigger, which will be investigated.

Montjoie said tha,t while they are currently investigating the issue, there does not seem to be any service disruption caused by the fire-suppression system.

I beg to differ on the 'no disruption of services'
We have 6 servers with them, which are ALL down at this moment.

Where there's smoke, there's a fire suppression system that may or may not have been manually triggered.
Not quite as catchy as the original.

How do you know that they are down as a result of the suppression system?

You mean other than the massive tremors that shook the building and 3 of my servers dying at the same time. I saw the IDC after this happened, everybody that has a server was there to get their systems back up.

Comms sent out stated that services were not disrupted... I can't rule out that services were disrupted as a result though

Because you're in Australia ROFL. last time I checked, Australia didn't rely on IS' center for data. :p

FYI latest communication to my company state that about 20 customers where directly affected by the fire suppressor foam
We have lost a server because of the foam, harddrive failed because of overheating from the foam coating on the case(s).
IS is reimbursing us with other HDD's - but there's not stock .. and no E.T.A
According to our account manager - another client got to the 'magic red button' and decided ...to press the fire alarm :D

That sucks. If the hard drives failed due to overheating, it makes you wonder what other damage has been caused by the foam.
