You only get 25℅ cash back when you reach diamond status, which takes minimum of 3 years, correct? So for the first 3 years or more, you get a smaller percentage back.

Healthy Food, Healthy Care, Healthy Gear are not related to number of years on Vitality or status.

For Food (P&P or Woollies) and Care (Dischem or Clicks) you need to register, do the Vitality Age online assessment and the Vitality Health Check which costs R180 for those who are not on one of the Discovery administered medical aids.

For Healthy Gear (Totalsports or Sportsmans Warehouse) you need to add a Fitness Check (R375) to get the full 25% discount. Otherwise only 15% at preferred partner, and 10% at the other. For Food and Care you get 25% at preferred partner and 10% at the other.

Things like travel, Nandos, Cape Union Mart, etc are dependant on length of Vitality membership and status.

Oh come on, Nando's depends on years!

Also, if you are the fitness type, you can join Vitality Active Rewards (joining is free) and try to reach your weekly points goals. In addition to the free smoothie/coffee you get for reaching your weekly goal, they also have flight booster and shoe booster.

With flight booster, I ended up paying just the taxes on my return flight to Cape Town in January - paid R318 for a R2950 flight. Got the initial 35% discount by being Diamond, then another 5% cashback for each weekly goal achieved before my flight. Means you have to book a good 13-17 weeks before travelling (depending on your initial discount - if you're Blue, you'd only get 15% off initially, meaning you'd need 17 weeks of achieved goals to get the full refund on the base fare) but still - not to be sneezed at.

The shoe booster is a bit more complex and you do have to pay R300 to activate it, but then you could end up getting full cashback for your shoes (up to the value of R2000, Sportsmans Warehouse only). It's only running from now until 13 April 2017.

I just cancelled my Vitality as it was just one of my kids using the Gym. That's the problem I have with vitality: if you're not the gym 'type' you're 'penalised' or excluded from earning much points. I don't use the gym, but I run and play squash and consider myself fairly healthy, but most of the races I run are not eligible for points. Nor are the long training runs, nor the squash games, nor the long dog-walks etc! I also don't use much running gear such as GPS watches etc. Then there's the problem of taking ages to get to a status that gets you benefits worth anything. Now if they gave points for each 6-pack of Windhoek draught... :)

Buy a heart rate monitor and then you will get points for all the races and squash games provided they are longer than 30 minutes and your average heart rate is over 70% of your max. Which they all should be. Most of my squash games are 45 minutes at about 85% of my max.

definitely worth it to me.
I get about R300-400 a month back on groceries.
I was one of the fortunate ones to originally apply for the once off gym membership perk (as long as I am on Vitality i don't pay Virgin active fees at all, other than national membership)
I get a least 1 free smoothie/coffee weekly with active rewards and an extra one if team mates achieve their goals :)

4 years later...

Is this still worth it? R290 per month.

- I don't use the gym
- I exercise 4 times a week and reach my goal of 500 points easily on my 2 weekend mountain bike rides.
- I don't shop at Pick n Pay or Woolworths. My local Checkers is a lot better and Woolworths is too expensive.
- I have Discovery Medical Aid
- I have Diamond Status banking

Do you still get cash back or just Discovery miles?

Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for less than my monthly spend. I already jump through the ebucks hoops with FNB.

I am interested in finding out if it is still worth it as well. Was looking into it recently. I can't be bothered with eBucks anymore. I get what I get. I shop at checkers and fill up at Engen and that's it.

Same. Also Engen for fuel because it is the closest and Checkers because it's one of those fancy ones.

You need to basically have all 3 products for it to be worth it. Bank, home/car insurance and vitality health.

Then you can get an Apple watch, iPhone, shoes etc.

If you don't use Woolworths/PnP it's likely not worth it.
