I am not being pedantic here but surely this constitutes as false advertising. WA have just released their IS packages and it states 2Gb International and 28Gb local. I think the same can be said for most of the other ISP's that offer IS dsl accounts. The fact is though that if you use your initial 2Gb on only local traffic you won't actually get any international allowance. I hope I am explaining myself correctly. The correct statement or something to this effect should be used. 2Gb un-throttled, 28Gb throttled and somewhere below qualify what the 2 terms mean.

Maybe I am just being pedantic and looking for an issue that is not really there but it was the same as when Telkom first launched ADSL. People always thought it was a 3Gb international and get shell shocked when they found out that was not the case. The ignorant/ADSL newbies out there will be the same. This is not a dig at WA either, i just thought about it while browsing their site.

Ja, the isps should come up with a way to not mislead the newbies... but what words can they use? U cant really hav an add saying "3gb unthrottled access then 27gb throttled international and unthrottled local access"

no but you can say

3 int 30 gig local but you have to use up your int to get to your local

so basically its a 3 gig account due to the fact 99% ppl use int sites

so once you use your first 3 gigs all int is dead

is that correct?

How about "UP TO 2GB international and 28GB local access"?

We allways tell clients that you get a maximum of 30gig access per account, if you apply for ie 2GIG/30GIG account, the first 2GIG local or international will add to your international cap, thereafter you will have 28gig local remaining.

Its all a matter of wording and explaining the situation.

Is there no way of routing/determining how the traffic is used? Surely it is possible? Bit crap to "waste" your 2Gb of "international" access on local access.

i can't believe this bull**** is even being allowed to happen. caps on bandwidth in 2006 ... there is really no excuse for it. even china, which MONITORS what you read, let's you have all the bandwidth you want, as long as you don't look at sites critical to the government.

I guess they should say "Full Access Cap" and "Local only Cap".. i say local only cause intl seems to be throttled after initial cap, but its basically useless

i agree, they should say: 2 gigs of int and local and once used then 28gigs of just local access

something like that, the advertising could become misleading

My understanding here with IS using international/local for international cap is because they offer atm unmetered local(but once in place, up to 30gig local) and they still pay Telkom for the local loop fees involved transfering more than your xGIG hardcap per month.

Taking this into consideration my believe is, that IS would not be able to offer up to 30gig local if they didnt count the international/local traffic for the international cap.

Sure they could offer it probably but not with sufficient profit.
