Is everything you think you know about depression wrong?

Without reading the article, I have a friend who is convinced that people suffering from depression should just snap out of it.

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. A lot of that rings very true.

I would be interested in reading the book. Scanning through the article, much of it sounds reasonable enough. It's an enormously complex topic, obviously and I can't pretend to have any sort of definitive opinion on the matter.

Personally though - I haven't used medication for, I don't know, a year or so, and will not ever go down that road again. It's difficult to articulate why, as meds have certainly proven effective to an extent, but I can't help but feel, as per the article, that there are changes in my environment, lifestyle and social space that could go a long way to dealing with things (my internal fantasy is something along the lines of moving somewhere that doesn't have internet and doing manual labour out in nature for a living - this is so opposed to my life and obsessions now, there must be a reason for the pull...).

As for mushrooms - I'm definitely keen to try them out therapeutically.

As for cannabis being a miracle cure for depression - That is most assuredly not my experience, nor that of most people I know who use the stuff and are depressed.
