i've been downloading Portal Demo from Steam. got it set to SA server (under download). the last few days went to Freezone but now my bandwidth's being chowed. no real help from WA call centre can anyone here help pse?

You do realize that only the 2 WebAfrica steam servers out of the 5 steam servers in SA are free-zoned, right? So setting it to SA servers won't do you much good.
The WA call center isn't helping you because the freezoning of steam servers isn't supported official because of the above mentioned problem (WA can't control what server the steam client connects to).
Numerous work-arounds are however available, so you can download without it munching cap if you set it up correctly. Personally I favour the firewall method.

Freezone works, if you want to download from steam though you need to use steamwatch.
Although not everything is on the WA steam servers. So I sometimes switch off steamwatch.
