IS hardcapping!

Also, remember:

1) A decent quality tv programme - 45 minutes - is around 400MB. Five of those to 2GB and 50 to 20GB. 50 shows = +-40 hours of viewing.
2) A PC game is around 2GB - prob less. = 40+ hours of play
3) Music / books etc is hundreds of hours per GB (thousands for books!)

so 100GB per month = WAY too much time on your hands! :D

Lets just say I archive ;) Yes i know what you mean but you know you see something interesting *click* *click* *click* :)

Hey Friends,

Unfortunately, IS have started hardcapping users this month.

It seems like they run a script that moves accounts over their 20 to 30GB (depending on account) mark, to a Hard Capped group, that then disables the account unrtil next month.

In some cases, they have allowed accounts to exceed 30GB up to about 56GB's, at which stage they hard cap it.

I have emailed Internet Solutions and requested them to officially confirm this if you do not wish to take my word for it.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

What accounts get hardcapped under 30GB ?

For R200 per month, 30GB is fair (R6ish per GB). Pity it is local only though.

fair it is. But getting 90 odd gigs a month was almost comparable with some of the worst offering from overseas. Which was kidna cool. 30 gigs just isnt enough IMHO

IS going the telkom route?

Feed people 90gigs a month till they used to it and then chopping it to 30gig. Now they make 3X the money they made before. They must remember that we will remember once there is proper competiton and the market is open ...

Indeed, this is not making me love IS much more than Telkom ATM.

It will all be remembered when the revolution comes...

So what do ppl think - are local torrent sites are going to take a knock in favour of the news groups?

Is short yes. There is not much choice now really. Uploading is starting to cost too much. I , for one cant up any more this month...Already at like 25 gigs... :(

well bwana v.9...the way i look at it....newsgroups have been my thing since last year..the only reason i do torrents is, coz i am part of the uploading team on one of the local torrent sites....sharing is caring...but if all this ends up becoming the real deal...i wont bother with it..since it wud be a waste....

besides since using SABnzbd-0.1.8.1-w32 i been smiling all the way...when 1st Nov came i restricted myself to not uploading any torrents to the local community...and i managed very well....but then we noticed local wasnt being capped and so the torrent community moved from telscum to IS..and everyone was heppi since they now cud make use of local torrent sites again....and so the uploading started again....

IMO the only ppl that wud benefit from local torrents wud be the uncapped IS and UUnet users..and those who feel they have the money to spend and buy multiple accounts...which at this point is not an option...my ADSL budget needs to stay as it is....in all honesty...who in their right mind can justify paying more for BW..as we all bitching and moaning about it day in and day out how expensive it is...yet we still feel the need to fork out more for more BW so we can use torrents...its bizarre...

if u had a business that requires the additional BW i wud say its needed, IF the budget allows and coz u have no other options....yet even THAT i wud say is pushing it...since the local loop was and is suppose to be unbundled and uncapped...

this is the bottomline.....as much has i support IS more then telscum..and their 30GB accounts are a big welcome....its still not enuff to make me spend more money then is necessary....

yeah i am with u on that. And i am all for caring and sharing as well. There is just gonna be less of it now that there is this hardcap to think about :(

Holy ****! I cannot possibly imagine using 100GB nevermind 30GB! :p
Is gaming and browsing really that bandwidth heavy? (Looking at 30GB now and sorry I'm using 56k so 30GB a month is quite impossible for me :D ) I'm currently just over 2GB for April, up and down.

IS really seems the way to go, lots of local after capped and the proxy. I'm not a big downloader so I suppose it will be fine for me. BTW. What about Guild Wars? After international is capped, obviously no more GW? :(
