Is home UPS worth it?

I'd agree with greg's logic - there is some definite low hanging fruit you can grab without a 100k installation. Lights being the obvious one and some form of entertainment (PC/TV) thereafter.

Guess it comes down to requirements...for myself if I've got light to read and music on my phone then thats close enough.
 
I got me couple of 200amp jumper cables at builders for R80.00 and cut them for my inverter to battery. Works great. I have a 48volt system with a 4000watt inverter so max draw will be 100amps.

I first looked at welding cable, 400amps rated and is 25mm thick, bit is R50 a meter... ouch....

My installation at home was done over a month ago already and it works well.

My cousins are also very happy with theirs, some 5kw and 6kw systems.

I would prefer not to buy a generator because they are so noisy. The battery system is more expensive but it is also more user friendly.

That is the type of installation that I want. Do you know the size of the inverter and the AH of the batteries?

(When I saw the blue casing I thought it was the Microcare system. Those are amazing.)

Victron is really classy stuff. But sometimes the best isn't always needed. Consider the InfiniSolar range which is half the price and works just as well.

Isn't the efficiency of the inverter important? I've noticed that the cheaper ones have ratings of 88%.

Those look like my Sako inverters. If the build and quality is the same as Sako then they're not bad at all. I've been using Chinese inverters for 3 years now and no problems .

But yip if you want a Ferrari then you going to have to pay for it.:)
