I asked Clipse to fill me in on what IS accounts are like compared to SAIX and I thought others might be interested in his reply so I'm posting it here. I don't actually have an IS account yet cos this month I'm with Web Africa but I'll be trying one out next month. If anyone wants to add anything feel free.
Whats the difference from saix accounts (performance, shaping, etc)
SAIX vs IS ::the only difference you may experience is locally, gaming with the IS account during office hours on SGS saix servers. Latency during office hours from IS onto SAIX network is around 100-150ms then after 5pm it goes back to 30-40ms completely usable, same as if you were gaming with a SAIX to SAIX account.
International Latency with IS is via satellite so you will experience 600-700ms at all times.
There is no shaping, locally or internationally, on IS adsl accounts, so all ports will offer you full speed unlike SAIX
How is skype on IS
Skype on IS is better than a cellphone call, internationally even. There is no packetloss, no shaping and no issues at all.
What packages are available
IS currently only offer 2/3/5/7/10GIG accounts, that would allow you to use up to 30GIG locally ontop of that. How it works, lets say you buy a 3gig account and use 3gig of data locally/international and get capped internationally, you will then atleast have 27gig of local bandwidth remaining untill the account is disabled. SAIX would hardcap and disable your account without allowing this extra local access.
Do extra purchased gigs get carried to the next month?
Remaining Meg's will not carry over, IS do not have any of this implimented yet, but we did query it with them and hoping for a positive reply soon. I know they have big plans from January with their accounts however.
Any thing else?
I think I've covered all bases. Our accounts run Month to month, so if you're not too happy with it after the first month, feel free to cancel without worrying about the normal 1 month notices.
Thanks Clipse for this info. Anyone interested can order IS accounts from Clipse's site or OpenWeb.
