Just got this from one of the IS resellers. I sent them an email about the new saol.com prices.

Thank you for keeping us informed.

With the prices that you have presented up, we are currently not able to keep up. The 3 Gig option from Webafrica.co.za that is quoted at R 220, is the same price that we offer, as their quote excludes VAT and ours is inclusive. A 10GIG option for R 300 or even R 259 is for us beyond reach as Internet Solutions sells us this solution for R 643.00. We have written a comprehensive letter to our service Provider Internet Solutions, urging them to review their pricing structure or giving us mechanisms to dynacially allocate bandwidth.

They have not responded until yet. I will keep you informed on any developments.

Thank you for your patience.

Internet Solutions are just too big to care much about the smaller guy.

Rather avoid them - they have their place for the huge corporates, but unless your a medium to heavyweight company, their services will not be suitable.

Didata + Teklom + Sentech = SA's Biggest and slowest communication companies.
IS is held by DiData.
I recon it'll take them 6 months to catch a wakeup.
Switch ISP's now if you can (If you don't need fixed ip address).

bb_mat...I guess time will tell. Lets hope you wrong

internet solutions

as is and telkom have not yet sorted out their bandwidth problems and will not be able to in the near feature it is bad policy to use any service provider (ovation) that use them as their internet speed is up and down as they are not able to controll it

How exactly do you expect IS to compete with SAIX when they are paying out of their own pocket for their traffic to SAIX as well as SAIX's traffic to them, and they have to pay the exoberant IP-Connect fee to allow DSL users to connect to their network??

The suspicious part of me wonders if SAIX isnt allowing or even promoting this 30gb price war just to eliminate the likes of IS and UUnet.

Very interesting point ... but what would SAIX gain is IS and UUnet dissapear ... are they trying to capture the business from the upper echelon of the market ... i.e. larger corporations?

Karnaugh, I couldn't really care if IS have to close shop because of the price wars (sorry if you're an employee).

For hosting a server in their Rosebank facility, they're charging us more per MB than ISPs in many countries charge per GB. I happen to overhear what they pay for bandwidth, if I can get bandwidth at that price and resell like they do, I'd put them out of business.
