Hey there,

I live in a flat and have 1 line going down to my flat from the dish. I have just the standard decoder. There are 4 flats that share the dish. I want to upgrade to a PVR soon, and understand that I'll need 2 lines from a normal lnb, otherwise just one from a SatCR.

I can't get up to the roof and see the LNB, but I can see only one cable coming from it (but I think I'm the only one with dstv) is there a way I can check on my dstv if it's a SatCR or not?

If it is a SatCR, and it perhaps runs into a splitter, will I still only need one cable for PVR?

Don't really want to call somebody to come install another line cost they wanna charge like R1000.

Thanks, look forward to your replies.

Because...?

Installations in blocks of flats wouldn't normally use a SatCR as dual LNB with splitters provides more expansion options. Mutichoice forums can probably confirm this for you. I'd be very surprised if it's a SatCR up there, particularly if that dish has not been tinkered with in the past 5 years.

However, to check if it is a SatCR you will need to look at the LNB itself. Or buy/borrow a PVR decoder, plug the line into the SatCR port and ensure SatCR is enabled in your PVR dish config and reboot. I'd go with the first option to find out, it's cheaper! :)

You don't get a 4-way SatCR... That is why.

You will either need to upgrade to an 8-way LNB and run a second cable to your flat, or put a 4-way multiswitch on 2 of the lines from the LNB and run a second cable to your flat. Sometime after 2017 DStv will start to use more than 2 polarities. You will then need even more feeds into your flat, with certain decoders and XtraView combos.

Tried to have a closer look this afternoon... Seems like it could be a quad lnb and that they just haven't connected the other 3 flats... Oh well.
