...or is SC2 not really that popular in SA? Despite the (I'm assuming) millions of international players as well as it being taken seriously as a sporting and broadcasting event.

I have noticed on things like local gaming forums as well as in these parts that it seems like the dead area of gaming topics? :o

Or did I miss the memo somewhere :D

I got pretty over it quickly. Single player campaign was awesome, but online is just not for me.

Allow me to explain - Blizzard has gone out of their way to make this an e sports title. In the process, they removed the fun. By making it so competitive, I dont get any enjoyment out of it. I mean, if someone cannon rushes you and its over in 5 minutes, to them, thats a good game. To me, thats a waste of time. I dont want to win so badly that I'll abuse anything in the game to do so.

It was popular when it was released almost a year ago. The multi is really intense, you have to concentrate so hard for quite a long time, it just gets a bit much for me... prefer FPS, way more chilled.

Find a friend who plays and play some 2v2, its really fun. Or what I've seen some of my friends do is they have a party of 4 guys, and they take turns playing 1v1 while the other 2 watch.

There's some local guys who are really into it on polarfluke, competitions n stuff.

I played (play) starcraft 2 quite extensively, and I found the balance, particularly in Protoss vs Protoss (I play Protoss) to be very fickle.

The game also requires an inordinate amount of time to follow the latest evolution/branch of strategies and to practice.

For those reasons, I am out.

Agreed, leave it for a month or two and you won't win a ladder match for a month or two.

One question how can PVP be imbalanced?

Up until this latest patch, the player who did the 4gate the fastest wins. You were forced to 4gate to fend off a 4gate - following another tech path was not possible/extremely difficult.

I think the problem is the lack of offline LAN gameplay. That is where the original was more fun to play. SC2 is more like a constant leage to upgrade your standing and doesn't have that friendly match feeling.

On the side if you have an iPhone or Android check out Starfront from Gameloft. Bought mine yesterday and love it. It's like SC but on your phone complete with multiplayer.

Still popular just have to know where to look,I play as often as possible and love the game add me PraetorMoose CC: 844 ,im pretty useless but we can play a few games if you're keen :) and yeah polarfluke and Dogaming league is where its all happening.

Have to disagree with this. SC2 caters for all types. Single player does it for you.. cool, im still collecting achievements which I find quite challenging and fun. It appeals to progamers because of limitless strategy potential. If you're not hardcore you can still jol in the lower leagues and not care about where you place or better yet, just play with friends. It's what you make of it.

I still get cheesed and it still pisses me off but that's the game and it does add another dimension to it. The problem here is you see it as a negative thing whereas instead you could say "ok what strategy can I use to outsmart a player doing this again". That's the point of this game.

Even the lower leagues are hardcore though. No one wants to have fun, they want to win using the strategy guide they read off the internet. Because winning is EVERYTHING!

The best games I had were in the practice league, when people were still learning the game. When I got through to the placement matches, even the lower level players arent out to have fun, but to win as quickly and as cheaply as possible.

I suppose I also fondly remember SC1 LAN games. Those were better because I knew the other players, and we could talk about the games afterwards. Online, not so much.

Never played SC1 Lan but have to agree with you on this. It's definitely the biggest flaw in the sequel.. we can only hope.

Loved the game just don't have the time to play for long periods - and then it's no fun online 'cos you get wiped out too quickly. Can't wait for part 2.

As a SC fan I agree. Gone are the days when all you had to help you was your own wits & experience to acomplish timely battlez.
Nowadays it's all about the easiest way of winning, while style is thrown out the window.
All we have to do as real gamers is adapt while keeping our virtues.

FPS & MMORG Killed the RTS star !

Peace "B"

the problem is that you have to keep learning.even in bronze league you need far better skills then in any other RTS game of this time.

Currently I'm in silver league but trying to improve. I'm a zerg player though. Still wondering if that is good or bad. Based on stats they are the least played afaik.

Looking at the GSL / NASL / TSL / etc i'd say the races are pretty well balanced at the highest level and also, until you're in Grandmaster league skill/experience difference >> race balance.

SC2 is a great game. Take a look at these 5 matches played earlier this month:
IM-NesTea vs sC-fOu
